[Max] I need help! / Re: Glass banding
« on: 2022-03-09, 16:49:05 »
Ok tried a new scene but same issue.

Corona round edges on a box shape 30x300x300mm zero'd on the origin. Units set to mm.

When I turn off smoothing if using the chamfer modifier it goes really crazy like I've put a large noise map in the bump.

Would it be possible for someone to try the max file and see if it happens with them too in case its something to do with my settings?

Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the reply, it happens even with corona round edges as well, which I would have thought doesn't need support loops?

The geometry is just a primitive box.

Tring to figure out of this is normal behaviour or not.

The glass (Glass preset physical material) is showing up these bands if I put a chamfer or fillet on the edges.

There is just the box, plane and one light in the scene. I feel it must be bouncing the reflection of the glass edge back and forth but I dont know why.

Anyway to stop it even if it is normal?

Ok great thank you, good to know it is how it is and not something I'm doing.

Absolutely, here's a quick scene with an open sided box (default shadowcatchermaterial) and a sphere inside. There is no lighting in the scene so I would have thought the ball would be black but it appears to be illuminated by the shadowcatcher material.

7
It may be an obvious button but whenever I use a shadow catcher material it acts like it is emitting light. No other lights in the scene but the model is still being lit up. Is this just how it works or am I missing something?

Thank you in advance.

Thats great thankyou, it's to add a chamfer to a wooden box so both layers it is.

Apologies if already asked but cant find it in the search.

If you were making a material with a clear coat would you put corona round edges map in the base layer, clear coat layer or both?

Thank you in advance

Thanks Juraj. Good to know what to focus on.

Resurrecting an old thread rather than starting a new one.

I was wondering of anyone had any luck getting a realistic effect for veneers?

I've been trying to get some high gloss veneers to pop particularly the ripple variety which look amazing in real life but not having much luck.

Hi,

I cant upload the scene I was having trouble with as it's a live project but through trial and error I realised the sun angle didn't lend itself to the caustics I was looking for + not waiting long enough.

Hi,

I'm trying to get the new caustics working on a current project swimming pool scene but I just get tons of fire flies.

The water is a solid object with a large noise displacement map, IOR 1.33 for both. The water object is bigger than the container would that be an issue? If so how would I manage that with displacement also being on?

The example on the blog looks amazing with the caustics in the pool and wall but cant seem to get anything like that.

I did try a new test scene with just a glass, plane and light but still cant seem to get it.

- Material Editor - Caustics (slow) - on
- Render setup - Caustics solver - enabled

I was wondering if the swimming pool scene was available somewhere on the site so I can see where I've gone wrong?

Thank you in advance

Amazing, thank you.

Shell modifier worked.

[Max] I need help! / Bright lines when surfaces intersect
« on: 2015-03-04, 13:40:31 »
Hi,

I can't get rid of the white lines in a number of scenes where the walls and ceiling intersect.
It also happens as in the photo with a moulding that is placed on the ceiling.

-No rounded edges
-Have tried without reflection on both surfaces
-Have tried without glossiness on both surfaces

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
