Cylindrical Displacement on a Plastic Lid
(1/1)
wardy_mk:
Wondering if anyone can help me. I've always had trouble with this and I'm sure there's a way to sort this easily.
I have to model the lid of a spray. The lid has an embossed logo. Goes in about 1mm. With a decal it'd be no problem, I'd make a displacement material then map it to the decal and have it only affect the displacement. BUT I can't wrap a decal onto a cylinder - can I?
So, I'm assuming I have to go with a Corona material.
My displacement map is greyscale, goes from black to white.
When I map it onto the material I do it this way.
I duplicate the material, add a displacement channel, then drop the new material onto the model on top of the 'base' material. Because all other elements are identical, it's seamless. Well, it should be, but there's a square line around the edge of where the material is. I've checked the black and it's 100%.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this as I've fiddled around a fair bit and it's still slightly visible whatever I do.
I'm sure there's an easy way of doing this but I don't have time to search all over the place and be testing so I thought I'd ask the experts!
Thanks in advance
Image below to show the kind of thing I need to acheive.

And why can't you use the bend function in Corona decal?
If that doesn't work, you would have to do it with a material, yes... Or model it...
wardy_mk:
Holy moly! I didn't even see that bend function in the decal options!
You hero! thanks

Be sure to always check our Help Center and/or Documentation for full feature overview. I must admit though, that the bend option is not promoted very well in our articles. We should improve this!
