Title: Odd Motion Blur
Post by: BigAl3D on 2023-03-11, 22:33:26
I know there are some lingering motion blur issues floating around, but didn't see this one coming. This is a closeup of a wheel that is rolling and moving to the right. It looks like I'm getting just horizontal blurs instead of radial. Could it be the forward motion is greater than the rotational?

These are also displaced, white tire lettering if that makes any difference. I'm going to jack up the rotations to see if that changes anything.

I cranked up the rotation of the wheel by as much as 4 times and got the same result. Sure would be nice to get expected results from a realistic render engine.

Works fine here (W10, C4D 2023, CRN 10 daily Mar-09-2023)

Is your wheel rotating and moving across?

It seems to be working here also. Did you do any further tests with it?

Here's another where the camera is locked to the car chassis.

Have not tested yet, but I will after a deadline later today. In my example, I have raised, white lettering on the sidewall of the tires which is what seems to be blurred only in the horizontal plane.

Would be nice to get more detail (how it's all constructed) or an exemplary scene next time ;)

OK so I'm back. I have collected just the car and will upload after this post. I think my issue has more to do with textures map than the meshes blurring. In the annotated image, you can see the center of the wheels are properly blurred, while the sidewall texture is not, only horizontally. In addition, the Decals are blurred, but they should not since the camera is a child of the car's motion.

The second image is the inspiration for this model. My son's Pinewood Derby car from 10 years ago.

Are you going by IR a final render? Here's another test. Once again the camera is locked with the car as well as the decals. Everything seems to be rendering as expected.

I'm not entirely sure what is going on here with the displacement, I will need to investigate further. With that said, I replaced it with a decal and got the following result.

One more test. :) I am getting correct results with both decals and textures with displacement.

Curious. So on your test with my model, is the car moving left to right? The decals on your example are crisp, but mine are very blurred. In my final animation, which you moved to the gallery section, shows there is some additional camera movement in addition to the camera following the car, so I should expect some decal blur, not what I'm actually getting. And of course the shutter speed will affect the blur, but I assume you used my set up.

This was a just-for-fun project, so don't drive yourself crazy. One thing I did not try was using v9 release. I made it with v10 daily.

Added a decal to the front wheel just to see. Same result for me.
