Hello friends,

After trying everything I could find on 3DS Max forums or online, I had to ask this question here because it happens constantly.

I have one WS and two servers as render nodes. When I use DR everything works fine. When I render animations with a backburner, everything starts working well... and it works well for hours, but after some time Backburner server app on my nodes just turns off without any reason. Sometimes it happens only on one server, sometimes on both. Strangely enough, the Backburner server working on my WS keeps working as expected. It is really annoying considering it usually happens at night when I can't start up the server's app again, so I lose precious hours of render time on servers.

I also tried to use Pulze render manager, and with that everything works fine. No stops and it can keep rendering for days.

If anyone had a similar problem, help would be appreciated...

Thanks a lot,
Bosko L.

What do you mean exactly by "turns off"? Do you mean server.exe (or serversvc.exe in case of you are running it as service) crashes/terminates?

Have a look at the last few lines of the logs if it happens:

1. Max.log (...\network\max.log) on the BB server

2. BackburnerServer.log (<user>\Appdata\local\backburner) on the BB server

3. Backburner.log (<user>\Appdata\local\backburner) on the computer running the BB manager

4. And maybe the log of the job itself (<user>\Appdata\local\backburner\jobs\<jobname>\<jobname>.log) on the computer running the BB manager. Even if this one is rather cryptic it still may reveal something useful

5. Standard system log (Computer management -> Event viewer -> Windows logs -> System)

Also make sure, there is no time schedule active for the nodes (Queue Monitor, right click on a node -> "Week Schedule")

Good Luck

How does your network setup looks like? It seems that the manager lost its connection temporarily

That message keeps popping up even when everything works OK... I've disabled all other network adapters except the one that I use for LAN.

I have a gigabit ethernet switch and all computers in the office are connected over cable. This morning again I connected to servers with Teamviewer, I see that the Backburner server app is not working, I start it - and it continues rendering normally... they work now, and they will work for hours - but sooner or later one or both of them will stop... It is really frustrating :)

If it ever worked, maybe this one would be interesting for you:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/3ds-Max-Backburner-will-not-render-warning-message-Could-not-broadcast-servers-appears-after-Windows-10-Creators-Update.html

Personally I've never seen this error, but usually windows updates are disabled here. Edit: I still guess this is the cause most likely. And the fact that it's working despite the error may be related to timing and timeouts.

Good Luck
