Hey there folks,

today I want to share with you a personal project - my reproduction of the Kunsthausbar in Zürich, part of the Swiss city's Museum extension by David Chipperfield architects.

Generally, this usually is not my favorite type of design, but something about the mix of modern architecture and retro-inspired furnishing was really appealing to me in this case. Additionally, I'd never worked with marble and velvet before and after a decade in archviz it was about time, I guess. The lighting - a homogenous combination of natural and artificial illumination -  was another challanging topic, too.
n the end it turned out to be a not-as-simple-as-it-looks, but happy-I-did-it work. Some of the angles are replicas of existing ones (by John P. Walder / Franca Candrian), most of them however are the result of my own gut feel.

Enjoy and have a sunny Friday!
Much love,
Teo

Hey there folks,

this is this year's Christmas card motive I created for my clients and partners. It's a snapshot of the beautiful atmosphere of a classic german Weichnachtsmarkt (Christmas market), the way I see and feel it. Experiencing it in a snowy evening is something I recommend to everybody, regardless of religion or belief - it feels like being in a fairy tale. The lovely contrast between the blue, coldish surrounding and the glowing warmth of the single stands, fused together to one magical, little settlment, is truly a wonderful experience to me. Hopefully I managed to share at least a bit of it with you trough this image.
(If not, well, at least I managed to create a kitschy Christmas scene, without a single Christmas tree... 😁)

Anyway, hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a good start in a healthy and inspiring new year!
Much love
Teo

Voodoo Priest, 1937
Hey there folks,

long time no see, hope you're doing fine.
Today I want to share with you this beauty - the 1937 Lincoln Zephyr Voodoo Priest, heavily inspired by a custom restyle, owned by Metallica's James Hetfield.

I'm neither into automotive rendering, nor much into cars in general, but I enjoy experimenting and this specific vehicle just melts my soul. I bought the model around two years ago and always planned to put it in a ZZ-Top-ian (ZZ-Top-esque?) surrounding, but never goto around to do that.
So, now I used the built-from-scratch surroundings of one of my latest projects as a stage to show this wonderful piece of art on wheels in its glory.
Enjoy (even better if you put this sound on)!

Wish you well
Teo

Gallery / Dedicated to my Dad - a 3d-painting
« on: 2022-08-10, 10:50:06 »
Hey there folks,

today I wanna share with you something different and very personal: "UnDying". It's a triptych of renders, inspired by a painting by Enrico Brandani. These were meant to be exploring the silverlining between rendering and art (in terms of contents, but also visual style). The specific reason behind this free time project was my Dad's retirement and my wish to gift him with something personal and emotional (to him as a person). Also, the inspirational work of art was handed down to us from my wife's Father, who unfortunatelly passed away years ago and left us the painting. He was an awesome person and my Dad liked him a lot, too.

As for the images themselves, it was a true challenge to create something lively and not-horror-related, while using main "actors" as emotionless as skeletons are. Also, getting the right mood and a visual style, similar to a painting, was a thrilling process, too.
In the end, a project like this is always highly subjective and interpretabke fir each and every one of its viewers. My Dad loved it (printed it out on large canvas) and this is what matters to me the most. But I'd still be glad to hear how the Corona community feels about this work of mine.

Much love.
Teo

And here are some closeups resp. further shots I took after the initial three images:

Hey there folks,

being a fan of earth-tones, I've been avoiding (strong) color in my works for years. Now I decided to go full in and use Mondrian's palette for an interior (non-commercial). This is how it turned out.
My kids love it. =]

Wish you well!

Gallery / Invitation: Celebrating a decade of rendering!
« on: 2022-03-31, 13:14:47 »
Hey there folks,

usually I post commercial work as I seldomly come around to making free time renders. Today however, I want to share with you a very personal project.

You see, in March 2012, after having spent 7 years studying and practicing architecture, I took a somehow unexpected carrer turn and deciced to become a self-employed-3d-artist. To be completely honest with you, this was a task I was widely unprepared for and a decision I have regretted many times afterwards.
Yet again - 10 years later - I am still doing and loving it.

So, to celebrate a decade of blood, sweat and tears, but also lots of beauty and joy, I'd like to invite you to have a drink and some cake with me in my garden. Why I went with a simple garden scene of all motives to celebrate 10 years of self-employment? Last year, after living in a small flat with two kids for far too long, we moved to a house with (quite a big) garden. For me, having spent my whole life in apartments, it is the first time having a green space to call my 'own'. It feels amazing and means a lot to me, personally.
I hope the shots do my excitement some justice and manage to grab and put you within this simple, yet naturally beautiful situation, where you can at least digitally be my guest:

Also, I wanna thank every each one of you for every like, motivational word and constructive criticism! Also, huge thanks to the Corona Team - not only for the times they shared my work on social media, but mostly for the wonderful engine, without which the images above wouldn't have been possible.

Cheers!
Teo

Hey there folks,

Happy New Year to you all!

Today I wanted to share with you my last project. The interesting thing about it is the backstory on why the clients even contacted us: The thing is, they already had technically very okay looking visuals for their project. But they still lacked something - authenticity and atmosphere. So, with the last small part of their budget they came to us, asking for exactly that - an quick and down-to-earth, but emotional view on their project. I built it up, played around with the cam positioning and lighting, and this is the result - simple, but impactful.

Hope you like it.
All the best

Hey there folks,

this year I literally only had a few hours to design a greetings card for my clients resp. groups I am a part of, such as this one. So, I thought "Let's play it safe and show the people some tits. Who doesn't like tits!" Unfortunatelly though, the 3d library searches only showed these yellow little birds instead, so I went with them...

Ok, all tit-puns aside, I really love thses small fellas, so here is also one for you to end yet another generally difficult year on a positive and hopeful note.
So, dear Corona Renderer community - thanks for everything! Be happy, inspired and stay healthy! And may 2022 be the best year in recent times!

Wish you well!

Hi there,

for a 3d-pictogram I want to render out a fully white model. Some of the buildings will later be coloured manually (PS ir Illustrator) and the buildings need to be fully white - no self-shading, just the contours (wiremat). Disabling "Receive Shadows" and "Cast Shadows" in the Object properties leads to the result you see attached. The buildings still have a 'darker' side, though - is there a way to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there folks,

here's a recent commercial project of mine - a pilot study, showing, that some cozy and nice living is very much possible, where previously wares were stored. It's the second largest industrial-type abandonded building in Germany and while parts of it remain for retail and office uses, others are planned to become living spaces. The task was to develop an interior design concept, emphasizing the charme of the archtiectural structure (ribbon windows, supporting framework, beams etc.), but also show the very non-industrial surroundings of the building. So me and a photographer worked together - he shot an awesome 360° panaroma on a sunny autumn day and I made sure to make a good and lightweight interior design, that is inspired by the autumn calour palette.
Enjoy

Hey there folks,

here's a series of black and white shots from a training project I recently made (based on the Haight Clothing Store by Entree Terras - https://www.behance.net/gallery/126335671/Haight-Clothing-Store). Totally enjoyed making these, hope you'll do to!

Hey there folks,

I'm not sure if this question belongs here, but as you guys are quite knowledgable, I thought I'd ask:
The agency I work with currently builds a website for a large, campus-like quarter, containing lots of building-modules, (inter)connected via 'floating' hallways. I was asked to make a very simple volume 3d-model, where the different stories get different colours to demonstrate the floor usage ("office", "shop", "cantine" etc.). The question was, if this simple model (a few boxes, more or less) can be rendered on a white background and made intercative (read: rotatable) for the website.

Here are some example links:

Has anyone here maybe already done something like that and can give me a tip?

Thanks in advance,

Gallery / Among the stars (ever seen a baby's POV)
« on: 2021-05-31, 20:54:24 »
Hey there folks,

here's something a bit unusual: my entry to the #vwcoverimage2021 contest. The task was to design a creative and nice cover image for the popular pro-render FB group.

My concept is fairly personal: First time I was introduced to the group by a friend I was amazed by the quality of the works there. It was like seeing a 3d-artist's Hall of Fame - everybody was a star and I really wanted to be one of them. But I felt, that I wasn't quite there yet. All this made me feel like a baby, that tries to reach for something close, but yet so far. I grasped, that I first got to 'grow' a bit more to be able to reach those "stars".
So as the cover contest started I decided to try and depict that feeling somehow. Time flew and the submission deadline came closer and closer. Yet I hadn't even begun, because of lots of commercial work and family-related responsibilities.
So, literally one day before the submission deadline I sat down and decided to try it. Luckily, I already had the idea, so I 'only' had to make it work. It was highly experimental, as a baby's POV is pretty much a very undefined topic. To give the whole scene more depth and maybe a bit of a different perseption (that can possible suite a baby, who knows), I went with the fisheye projection. I placed "the baby" in a baby-bed with canopy, build the room around it, let some moody light in, mounted a mobilé with the VWA logo above the baby's head and added the baby's hands with some motion blur, to add dynamic and make the striving to reach the mobilé more comprehensible.

Long story short - take a look and judge for yourself. And wish me luck for the contest!
Gladly hit me up with some feedback, if you feel like it!

All the best

[Max] I need help! / Fisheye with DOF
« on: 2021-05-29, 18:20:15 »
Hey there folks,

is it somehow possible to use a Fisheye cam and still have DOF? Once I switche the projection type ro Fisheye, the DOF area becomes grayed out. I guess that has to do with the typology of fisheye lens, but still - for my current project I really need the closer areas to be blurry.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Hey there folks,

today I wanted to share with you the first commercial bathroom I designed and rendered - after all these years, being a 3d-artist. Client was very happy, though - so happy actually, that not only the renders were greatly received, but also the interior design itself - so now the bathrooms in the client's aptartment building will be implemented like that.
My goal - both in terms of design and visualization - was to create and present a pragmatic, down-to-earth bathroom, that common people can relate to and not some over the top catalogue-like marble architectural miricle. On the other hand however, said bath had to be intriguing and attractive to potential buyers.
Challenge accepted. Here's the result.

Enjoy and stay safe.
