Hi. I didn't find an answer for this:
is there a way for Corona to create the cut sides? Or fill them...

(a 3d-object and I would like to cut some pieces away with a 2d-image. Boolean is not an option in this case)

Thanks

Doesn't seem possible. As far as I understand you would like to create geometry based on opacity/other texture. Does any renderer allow something like this?

Yep I would like to make a roll, like these:

And there would be quite many patterns...

During the last 15 years I've seen this question being asked frequently on every forum I've visited, but so far I haven't seen any solution other than the obvious: model it :)

So if you know any other renderer that does this, then please tell.

Your last example looks a bit different than the 1st post. I would go with simple opacity map here. Additional bump map could make it look more 3d (subtle emboss around the holes).

I just whipped this up based off your reference.

it's a helix spline with a bunch of turns, then an extrude modifier and smooth modifier on top, and using an opacity map to show the pattern. with a uvw xform modifier to control tiling and placement

Not sure what all your patterns would look like, but would this not be adequate enough?

Extra tip: add CoronaRoundedEdges map with small radius to bump slot and your single sided tape will suddenly gains some thickness.
