Registering

Edit:
I belive you should add a link to forum of some sort (here)

Edit2:
Why would you add sample scene to the first material you added?
25 MB is not much but its a waste of space.
Your inside corona settings are wack why 64? Its pointless, defaults work way better.

Also you start a corona material site with 1 literaly 1 material on start? Thats not promicing.

thank you Tanakov very much for your opinion, it is so important to me.

I belive you should add a link to forum of some sort (here) - i know

Edit2:
Why would you add sample scene to the first material you added?
25 MB is not much but its a waste of space. -i don't understand, please explain
Your inside corona settings are wack why 64? Its pointless, defaults work way better.-the settings are recommendation of some member's in forum, but i will check it.

Also you start a corona material site with 1 literaly 1 material on start? Thats not promicing.- give it a chance, people are registering all the time...soon the library will be very Useful

steyin , thanks, good point.

This link
http://coronamaterials.com/material/white-curtain/
Leads to dowloading not only the materials, but also the sample scene, that is 25mb fat.

I would just recommend adding the max mtl file instead.

And about the materials, I was expecting you to make a fiew on your own atleast gather like 20~ to look more fancy.

The lighting in my car material seemed to be a bit darker so i suggest you state rules of what render settings should be used and what exposure and minimum passes, and like Tanakov said. the default settings work just fine, with yours the pre-calc phase is too long just for a simple test scene

I have to admit, I don't like the layout.

Oh yes and also need a rule on naming convention for eg. no underscores or no sticking "corona" in front of each material name

I really dont like that smooth moving effect of top bar...  makes the whole page feel unstable and floating :)

First of all thank you for this site.

Layout could be better but improving it could be done also in the future without losing the content.
I agree with others that you cannot reload all the model just to catch the material or just give an option to choice from download all the model or just the mtl files with all the maps and procedural map (substance for example).

Maybe is better to write down a little piece of instructions for submitting...

Hi. My thoughts so far:

-missing texture warning on file opening - don't know why because the floor texture is present
-if you want all the previews to look the same, in the scene file "pass limit" should be taken into account, not "time limit". Users with different cpus will get different results
-not sure but maybe different highlight compression would be useful because you will get very sharp reflections when rendering reflective materials (for example glossy metal)
-strange rescaling of menu on the website when changing window size
-you could change site's title to "CML - Corona Materials Library" - the abbreviation is easier to remember

Also, uploading a 20mb file every time seems crazy to me. Maybe it would be possible to upload only preview and a .mat file?

This. I'd say to model the site or at least the way materials are shared/uploaded after Jeff Patton's mrMaterials website, which has unfortunately been down for quite some time.

Material preview render, .mat file and accompanying textures (if royalty free) should be included in a zip/rar file.
Also, everyone needs to render with the same file settings: gamma, exposure settings, # of passes, sampling, etc.

Perhaps this should be put to a community vote for optimum results?

Any way we could make the MAX version universal for all mats? Or push people to start upping .mat files? All the stuff I'd like to grab is upped with 2014, which I'm not running. Savings as 2012 for the default would be nice.

Well. I have 3dsmax2012...
-Today I downloaded a legal version of Autodesk Product Design Suite Ultimate 2014, 13.4gb zipped
-Then I installed only the 3dsmax Design 2014 from that, not the whole f'n 40gb unpacked  package
-Then I downloaded all the materials from coronamaterials.com, unpacked them
-Opened 3dsmax Design 2014, found out that I didnt have the latest license-file on our system
-Logged in to autodesk, filled in our companys info´n´shit
-Got the license-file and installed it to our licence-servers flex_lm-service
-Opened 3dsmax Design 2014 and realized  I need to install corona a6
-Opened all the max-files and gathered all the materials into a one .mat-file
-Found out that the .mat wont open in 3dsmax 2012 [RAGE FACE]
-Think hard.
-Opened 3dsmax Design 2014 and made 18 planes with all the materials from my 2014 .mat-file (all materials from coronamaterials.com)
-Saved it as a 2012-file
-Opened 3dsmax 2012 and the .max-file, made a new .mat-file by saving all the 18 planes materials [That went better than I expected-face]

EASY as 1-2-3. But I must say: The blue car-paint and old-metal -materials rule.
Also, would there be any easier way to import 2014-materials to 3dsmax 2012?

Most 3ds max materials haven't changed for ages, why autodesk can't make them backward compatible?

Because they're Autodesk.

I guess that'll work for people to convert down, but leaves people like me in limbo still as I can't use any of the uploaded files saved in 2014.

Compliments to the home page "CML", simple and linear, worthy of the render engine!

First of all, i'm loving the site! Maybe something that might need a fix, I downloaded a material that had a map I recognize it from my own viscorbel collection. I don't know the legal terms, but that might need some attention on the homepage.

Other then what other members posted, about a mat file, i think its awesome.

Kudos!

I haz question for the guy who made the website and for Keymaster:
I used Maxwell Render before (now I am a happy Corona user) - In maxwell & 3dsmax I can open material editor and press "web search" or something like that.
Could you guys implement a button to Corona, pressing that would bring a list or search box and you could search materials from CML?
After founding a material I would want, it would be downloaded and added to the material editor.

Corona is awesome now. With that the awesome level would rise by +3.

3 is not a large amount. Are you sure just 3 points of awesomeness would make it worth the implementation? I am really not convinced the awesomeness/implementation difficulty ratio would pay off in this case.

I'm not against CML or anything, but for me creation of materials in Corona is so fast, easy and intuitive that it could actually take more time to download a material than to make it from scratch.

Currently I think downloading materials CML materials is too much work - unfortunately!

My biggest reservation on CML is that people are far to anarchistic and sloppy with their naming of shaders and maps - and references to maps - giving one big mess when imported.

Without a convention on exchanging these materials in terms of naming, placement ect - the gain is to little! Ordnung muss sein!!

In my opinion materials should be named first by category - then main subject - then - sub subject  - fx. Metal_Chrome_Scratched  that helps finding the material. Using Max' own naming like 'Material#12325" should be punished with 10 whip strokes and potential execution by dawn. Thats simply not a way to exchange materials. Maybe a username should be added somewhere to prevent collision with similar materials, - I don't know.

Naming of referenced maps should follow the same naming convention fx. Metal_Chrome_Scratched_Reflection, Metal_Chrome_Scratched_Bump ... ect.
- and should of course be referenced in the material Relative - preferably to a subfolder placed the same place as the max file containing the material  - in other words : /Maps/Metal_Chrome_Scratched_Reflection, /Maps/Metal_Chrome_Scratched_Bump.

I don't know if it is really necessary to download a MAX file for getting a material - MAX support an XML way to save material  - but I don't know how open it is to support external renderers like Corona - Maybe that should be another feature addon on Ondras list.

I hope I will open some kind of debate on this subject, because I think it is needed to make CML usable. - and actually that goes for other libraries like TurboSquid, DesignConnected ect as well.

What if we could download multiply materials at once, or some kind of button where you could access all the materials uploaded to CML directly in max. that would be faster :D

Right on. This would be GREAT.
I wouldnt mind if the file would be big, one button to download them all!

Post by: Fritzlachatte on 2014-08-14, 07:33:14
I am not sure if a "one button solution" for downloading the complete content would be the right way. Nobody would discover the single shaders and might not vote for the better ones, which makes it easier for other users to separate good and not so overwhelming quality.

About the site itself I can say, that I learned a lot with these shaders, because I can figure out how others handled problems or sometimes giving confirmation that my way of creating the shader ist right, my lighting settings just were wrong.

So thanks for the CML Website :-)

I was just wondering - I havent installed a7 yet. If I download a material from CML which was done with a7, will it be totally different in a6? Or some
things wont work?
In other words: Is it ok to use a7 materials in a6?

Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread, but I stumbled upon this post while searching for materials for high-rise curtain wall glass. It seems at one point there was a community base Corona Material Library website for users to upload and share materials created by themselves. It no longer seems to be active though. Is this the same library of materials that is included with the Corona Render license now? Are there any other community material websites for Corona / 3DSMax? I have found quite a few ones for C4D but nothing in the way of 3DSMax ones. Thanks!

The ones on that website were not the same as the ones in the current Corona Material Library or in Chaos Cosmos (those last two are entirely created in-house, for reasons of licensing, so no user created content from that old website is in either of those libraries).

It's not just you, the site isn't there any more. Note that it was always a third-party site, nothing run by us :)
