Can you provide one of the problematic vdb files? Can always be done privately via ticket https://corona-renderer.com/link/contact-support

Also, which version of Corona and which version of Max?

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Carona 9 DOF vs older versions

Unfortunately I am not technical enough to be able to help in a call - and to be honest perhaps the best way forward here for investigation is to have an example scene, that we could run in Corona 8 and 9 and see if there was a measurable difference in speed related to DOF. You could send one in via ticket, which would be secure and safe and only used for testing this particular bug/issue using https://corona-renderer.com/link/contact-support . Best thing about that approach is the developers themselves could take a look, if something was found to be causing a marked slowdown in DOF (or at least we could check the DOF improvements coming in 10 remedy the situation ;) ). Thanks!

Most welcome!

The starting point here would the end - what application are you going to use for AR? That application will then have instructions on what it requires as input in order to work, and then it Corona can be set to give that output (most likely). So I'd recommend selecting your AR application, and working back from there.

Also, which version of Corona, and which version of C4D?

I may not understand 100% - could this because the decal was getting applied to the scattered trees too, since it affects all objects it overlaps/intersects? If you set the decal to have an Include list and only affect the terrain, does that help?

In the Stats tab in the VFB, unless you are looking for something different?

(You can also enable the Render Stamp in the System settings of the Render Setup if you want to save that embedded in an image so you can find the details days or weeks or years later.)

Sending in the bug report mentioned in the error is often useful too, please. Thanks!

[C4D] Feature Requests / Re: Normal Maps - which dircection
« on: 2023-03-23, 10:10:47 »
Yep, unfortunately normal maps don't contain any information about how they were generated or what was chosen for the up/down directions or which axis is which color. This means there's no way for software to even make a 'guess' at what is correct, leaving it to the viewer to make sure that things expected to be indented or popping out are correctly looking indented or popping out.

Corona 3? That's a 5 year old version so things will look different then. There was no Intel denoiser for one thing, and the UI has been rearranged. No reason to use such an old version, a subscription gets you access to all versions so you can be using 9 HF1 with all the improvements that have come with it over the last 5 years :)

You don't need a full license for something that will just be a render node, you need a Render Node license :) https://corona-renderer.com/prices-licensing/render-nodes

This doesn't cost as much as a full license, as it doesn't allow opening the host and using Corona in full, it just allows the machine to render.

EDIT: And for C4D, you won't need a second license (again, you won't be able to open C4D on that render node machine, but you can use it to render - just install C4D on there with the team render stuff, and never open it as a full program)

But Intel and NVIDIA show as options? Just to be sure, is Corona selected as your active render engine?

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Rejection of reflection
« on: 2023-03-22, 13:03:00 »
There are no plans for this, it's not really what override is used for (which is a way to check lighting without distractions). There are some options, for instance you could use a Reflect render element which is exactly what you ask for here, nothing but the reflection component in the scene, I think this would do exactly what you want to do. You could also exclude individual objects from being overridden if you wanted to see their full material (e.g. diffuse color, etc. too).

Are the trees in your scene animated in some way? Looks like they are, and this could cause the geometry to be different each frame and therefore these randomizations would change each frame. Let us know about those trees, where you bought them, what the animation format is, etc.

BTW if you have a scene that demonstrably is slower in 9 rather than in an earlier version (ie you can run it in the different Corona versions and there is a difference that can be seen in the time to render, rays/s, etc), we'd be interested in seeing that scene.
