Hopefully this means we will start seeing some more info leak out about Threadripper 3000 and get some info when they will actually release.

I purchased my x399 and 2950x for $50 cheaper than just the cost of just the 3950x. 1 & 2nd Gen Threadripper are always on sale now, along with the x399 boards. If your going to wait till the 3950x to release you might as just wait to see what info comes out about the new Threadrippers.

If you need an upgraded computer right this moment, the best idea IMO is to pick up a high end x399 MSI Meg or Zenith Alpha and just pick up the 1950x (1920x if your really want to save money but still have a nice upgrade, its $265 on newegg right now). This way later on down the road you should be able to upgrade to Zen 2 Threadripper or pick up 2990wx when they go on sale.

The 3950x is the top end of Ryzen, the chances of seeing more cores on the platform is far less than what Threadripper already offers.

If the memory is expensive, it's never worth it. And 64GB CL15 kit, still has to be run at CL16 if the compatibility proves to be problematic, and 100perc. CL16 if it's 128GB kit from identical modules. Actual experience of mine.

But is it so expensive where you are ? I've bought Corsair LPX 64(4x16) 3000 CL15 for 300 Euro recently (final price with VAT from Amazon.de), and I've already seen few sellings for 250 Euros. 1000 ? Are you looking at obscure b-die G-Skill sets ?

I'm in the US and just the price diferences on memory for minor differences like RGB and no RGB can be up to $80
The kit you mention CL15 3000 (Corsair RGB one) is around $329. Its the CL14 3200 kits that are way up there in price 700+.
Looks like a choice between 2.

CORSAIR Vengeance 3000 CL15  64(4x16) = $329
or
G.SKILL TridentZ 3200 CL15 64(4x16) = $456

I don't imagine the 200mhz speed is worth the price difference. Both are RGB kits as well =/

I keep seeing this a lot with how Ryzen 3000 is a lot cheaper than Threadripper. The Threadripper platform isn't new, 1st gen cpus are on sale all the time and even 2nd gen ones you can snag for a good price if you keep an eye out. I just paid the same price as a 3900x for a 2950x. The x399 Taichi i picked up for $200 a few months back (from what ive seen the x570 boards in this price range are just meh). Last month the 2770wx was on sale at microcenter for $700 (cheaper than the 3950x will be). Even the Mobos Juraj recommends have $100-300 off sales.

With Threadripper you have room to upgrade to a wider selection of cpus. With Ryzen 3000, you'll have the 3950x later this year. Maybe Zen 2+ might add a few cores. I think a safe assumption that Threadripper 3000 will start with 24-36 cores and if it has the same IPC increase that Ryzen 2000 to 3000 has, even without a core count upgrade, 24-36 core Threadrippers will be extremely nice to have.

The 1950x is a really good bargain right now as it has dropped down to $330-$399 a few times lately. With a higher end x399 board you will still have plenty of room to grow. As Juraj said you will probably need one of the better boards to run anything that Threadripper 3 will offer though.

Threadripper absolutely needs 2933MHz (CL14-CL16).

A question about RAM i've been looking for 4x16 kits (64gb) and everything in the CL 14-15 range is either sold out or $1000. I currently have CL16 32GB kit in and the same memory is on sale for $174. Is CL14-15 worth it for the large price increase?  I used the DRAM calculator and it did increase my Cinebench R20 score fairly well, but only shaved off a couple seconds on the Corona Bench.

The RTX 2060 Super has 8GBs for VRAM as well. The only RTX card that doesnt have 8GB of Vram or more is the normal RTX 2060.

I have to say I really like the Asus WS 570 Ace. Clean look, decent price (well...300 euro), good VRM (12+2). Could be more of these.

Do my eyes deceive me or is there no RGB lighting on this thing? o.O

@romullus Watched a youtube video of someone going over choices for mobos for Ryzen 3000, it seemed more of the B450 boards have bios flashback where the x470s didnt. Think it was the Gigabyte b450 Aorus Pro wifi that had most the features and bios flashback, might double check that one.

AMD Ryzen 7 3800X / 3.9 GHz // 440€ (best single thread performance)
ASRock Radeon RX 570 Phantom Gaming X OC 8GB // 200€ (high vram capacity)
Asus Prime X570-P // 200€ (PCIe 4.0) (better storage speeds and more lanes for additional tasks)

Might as well save a few a get the 3700x and just overclock it.
Unless you specifically want faster storage speeds your better off to save the money and go with a b450 or x470 board. If pci lanes were what you were after, better off just sticking with threadripper and pick up a 2nd gen on sale or wait for 3rd gen.
Stick with Nvidia cards as they support things like fast denoising in interactive rendering with Corona. There are a handful of Nvidia only things in 3d software applications. If you trying to keep cost low, getting a used/refurbished GTX 1070/1080 would be better, 1080ti best if you can fork over a little more money.

FX-9590 scores a 110 in cinebench r15 single core.
1950x scores a 166 in cinebench r15 single core.
Just because the fx runs at higher frequency doesn't mean it's faster.
Also the FX-9590  in multicore scores 728 vs 3000 from the 1950x. You would severely be losing performance all across the board.

A Ryzen 3600 would be an upgrade in single thread, while still keeping budget low and thread count higher than old CPUs.

my spec are:
_AMD 2990WX
_MSI X399 SLI PLUS
_Corsair hydro series H80i V2

I could easily be wrong but I think the H80i doesn't cover most the cpu and the 2990wx needs some good cooling. Maybe Juraj will check this but I think he mentioned the enermax liqtech is the Watercooler that fits specifically to the tr4 socket.

I hate to spot this guy with yellow trousers in every other arhviz rendering, so i quickly threw material, that would let easily customize his outfit. Feel free to use it in your renderings. Usage is very simple, you just need to desaturate outfit parts in diffuse texture and plug it into provided material.

Be aware, i'm not sharing original asset, but only material to it. If you don't have this model, then there's no point in downloading my file.

Lots of guys in purple trousers now lol! Next step blend corona MultiMap to make different skin tones. (:

Damn, looks like these new Ryzens destroyed many buying guides. For example, it seems buying a TR 1920x does not make much sense any more with Ryzen 3700x. That's 400 € vs 350 € with similar or even better performance, and it will get even cheaper.

I paid $479 total for my Mobo and 1920x which is slightly cheaper than the 3900x alone. But yeah the 3900x just kicks all of the non wx models in the teeth with only 12 cores! Maybe the 3950x will give the 2970wx a run for is money. Even if they didn't add more cores to zen 2 threadripper, it would seem like the IPC gains alone would significantly increase the performance with the 24/32 thread TRs!

Also should mention the 2990wx is on sale at microcenter as well for $1499. $300 off.

If your okay with waiting for the 3950x, I don't see why you don't just wait for the new threadrippers?

For anyone that lives in the US near a microcenter they are have a huge price cut on the 2970wx for $750, if you also live near a staples you might be able to go to staples a do their 110% price match which drops this thing under $700.
https://www.microcenter.com/product/513570/ryzen-threadripper-2970wx-30ghz-24-core-tr4-boxed-processor

And the 3900x is throwing up some interesting numbers. Hopefully we get some leaks of the 3950x before September of practical overclocks. And more importantly hopefully we get some info on next gen THREADRIPPER!!!

I was wrong the 1080ti I saw was $440!! If you don't mind refurbished. You should be able to find some good deals on 10 series, if you don't want to try raytracing out in real time.

Yeah I think that maybe I get that too...I think it's some new scaling issue with Chrome or Windows. I get it randomly if it's the same thing as you describe.

My short term memory is terrible so I don't know if I didn't see it on Facebook instead.

Looks like I'm getting the issue in some of the windows settings menus as well. I took a picture of it on my phone, I had to move my phone around at different angles to see whats going on, from straight on the camera it look fine, but when you do it at grazing angles you see it. Increasing my scaling to 125% drastically made text worse and you could see mostly red fringe. Its extremely obvious and today is the first day i've seen it.

***Restarted computer everything is back to normal weird.

Juraj as of today I am getting color fringe around my text, ranging from red to blue/purple, maybe even some green its hard to tell cause every character seems to look a different color. It is only happening here on the corona forums. If i zoom the browser up to 150% it goes away. No other text elsewhere seems to be causing this, haven't had the issue prior to today either.
