I would also suggest trying without a VPN, on a classic LAN, if possible.

Generally, we cannot offer support for DR with VPN as it's not an officially supported setup: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528201429009

Unfortunately we are forced to do this via VPN as we are now a part a bigger firm that require high level of security.
It actually works when we are using two render nodes.
