We will start implementing Corona into C4D soon. If you would like to help, we would appreciate if you know about some good pages with C4D resources - example scenes, tutorials, reference guides, or ideally, some references for programmers - sample plugin implementations, development discussions. I don't also know how open are C4D devs to plugin developers - do you know if there is some option to get our specific API questions answered?

Seems like you guys were smart enough to not fall for Mental Ray for C4D propaganda :)

I never liked the Mental Ray :)
Previously I worked in 3D max and even there used Vray, because I was not satisfied with either the quality and speed of Mental Ray. There are too many options, but at the rate they have virtually no effect.

And after they bought Nvidia, they are very poorly developed.

Really glad this is going to happen.  The option for C4D users right now is native engine or Vray.  With Corona's speed it should be really nice.

I tried the demo of Mental Ray for C4D and found it was terrible.  Calculating the light for a simple room took forever.

There is MAXON Plugin Developer Conference every year, this year in June 13th, Cologne, Germany. More info here:

http://c4dprogramming.wordpress.com/2013/03/28/maxon-developer-kitchen-2013/

It is free of charge and covers plugin development, new CINEMA 4D development and discussion with other developers. Usually you have to sign NDA as some information may not be published to general public.  Hosted by Bernd Lutz, MAXON product manager. If you want to apply, please write email to Bernd to b_lutz [at] maxon [dot] net  (you can CC me to szkandera at digitalmedia(dot)cz so it does not get lost as Bernd is quite busy person)

Keep my fingers crossed,

Standa

EDIT: corrected date of the developer conference, it takes place in June 13th, not July 13th

Well in fact there is also Renderman-compliant engines, Maxwell Render, Octane Render, Fry-something, Thea Render, ...
But it's true C4D users mostly use native renderer or Vray. Most are looking for speed, and Corona could be well perceived.

For plugin programming, the official place to go is http://www.plugincafe.com/forum/default.asp
But there is also http://c4dprogramming.wordpress.com/ that is quite new and maintained by MAXON devs (amongst them is C4D-Jack, a former C4D plugin developer, and a very open guy). I think you could have quite some help from there.

In anyway, glad to see the C4D plugin being developed!

That's great news!!
I use Maxwell with C4D, but desperately need something faster :)
Could You tell me, when approximately can we try the first alpha of Corona-C4D renderer?
