Title: Old house reconstruction - previz
Post by: tomislavn on 2015-11-09, 08:33:42
Hey fellow Coronauts :)

I am currently working on a project that includes an old stone house that is being rebuilt into a modern villa (where some parts of the stone dry walls remain for decoration). This is only the living room part that is almost empty since I have just started with it, but I think you should get the general sense of the style. Also, white wall pattern looks a bit rough and stretched, but it is like that in real life also :)

What do you think about the drywall? Does it look believable at all? Do you think I should stick to this displacement or should I go on and sculpt it in Mudbox?

P.S. Don't mind the texture watermark (depositphotos) - I am still in a process of searching for a good drywall texture.

Looking forward to your comments or ideas :) Thank you!

Hi
It seems that the stone wall texture has quite strong shadows and in my eyes it makes a conflict between lighting in your room and the lighting on this wall texture. This is why it feels like it's not enough displacement depth on this wall to have such a strong shadows, but if you encrease the depth you'll double shadows inbetween the stones because there are shadows on the texture already. Maybe if you make these shadows on texture not so visible in photoshop and increase depth of displacement it will help to make it look more believable

Hmm, that's a great and valid point Bormax :) I will see what I can do about that. Thank you!

At the moment stones doesn't look displaced at all. I'd try to paint manually some displacement map in photoshop and then would mix it with b&w stone texture.

Working on it :) hopefully it should give better results.
