Dear Corona Community!

Some of you may have already heard about our product Vermeer. With Vermeer our goal is to help artists eliminate the complex and unrealistic CGI lighting setups in their 3D scenes and ensure a constant level of quality and photorealism in their output while making their production more efficient.

Coming from the visualization field ourselves, we've encountered most of the issues in our own production. Throughout the years attending conferences and talking with the industry, we also saw that it was not just us.

For this reason we are developing Vermeer and currently releasing Vermeer Skies, our first element to our ecosystem. Our friend RenderRam made an introductional video about it if you would like to know more:

Hello!

As far as I remember this bug was existing also a long time ago in Corona, but I think in previous versions (1.4 for example) the behavior was not that bad. After installing 1.5, unfortunately it got worse and now we have this problem almost all the time. I have attached a crop where you can see the problem:

Light behavior when the backplate is active

Light behavior when the backplate is hidden

In the wood material I removed all the details, it is just a diffuse map and a glossiness value. When the glossiness value is 1.0, or close to it, than there is no problem, but once I start to lower it just a bit (around 0.8) the artifacts appear. The backplate is set up as it should be, I get the same results with the rayswitch material and with the coronalight material also.

I remember that previously this problem appeared mainly in interior scenes when the thin option was not enabled on the window glass materials. Now this problem occurs almost all the time :/

Hi!

I have tried to look for some information in the "Index" topic, but I was not able to find the right information.

The problem we are facing in the office is, that when we try to render an image with Deadline in tiles, after you check the final result in some parts it is clearly visible, where the separate tiles were stitched together. My guess is, that it could be a problem, that we have some different setups in our renderfarm (some computers with Intel processors, some with AMD processors for example) and they produce a different end result. Could this be the problem? If so, is there a solution for that?
I am just guessing, as you have the option to setup the final render quality by giving a certain amount of passes or a certain amount of time to render. But with big differences in the computer performances (different rays/s values) is it possible that they produce such a different end result?

(We also had similar problems while using stripe rendering via Backburner, that's why I am guessing, that it is probably a problem with the blades and not the actual render managing software).

Thank you very much for your feedback in advance :)

Hello dear fellow Coronauts! :)

So I would like to request a feature with describing my problem (maybe there is a better, or another solution in the end for it).

So the problem, that I'm facing, is for example I want to make a preview render, so I set up the "save output" folder in the render setup tab, and I also activate all the render elements, so everything is saved out together to the specified folder. This is clear, after my rendering is finished, I have all my passes saved out and I can work with them.

So my problem is, when I want to continue to work on my image, I deactivate the "save file" option (sorry, I don't have a Max open in front of me at the moment so I can't give you the exact name for the option, but I guess you get the idea what I'm talking about ;) ), but if I don't deactivate the render elements, because I want to see in the framebuffer what is going on on the different passes, than those still get saved out when I make a preview render.
The solution that I found is either I deactivate the render elements, but this is not an option in all cases, or I setup a temp folder somewhere and I set that up as my output saving folder. But with this second option for example I still have to wait after the rendering is finished while Corona saves out all the different passes, which can take some time if you are preparing some high resolution images.

So my question and request would be, that isn't it possible, to achieve something similar, that we had with Vray, that you can have all of your passes rendered out without saving them anywhere. And in the end having an option at the frame buffer to save all passes out, or have a save output option in the render settings tab, that is not the basic one of 3ds Max, but a similar solution, that Vray has.

Don't get me wrong I really enjoy using Corona and don't want to compare it to Vray, just it makes it easier for me to describe what I'm actually talking about and maybe it's also easier for you to understand :)

I hope you could get the idea what I was talking about, but if something was not clear, than I will gladly try to desribe it more precisely.

Thanks,
Adrian

Work in Progress/Tests / moadr WIP thread

Hello all!

I have had some posts before on the forums, and I have also tried out Corona Renderer the usual way (just simply converting an old Vray scene and hit render :) ), but now I wanted to test it normally and build a scene for it.

I was also really intrested in Marvelous Designer, so in this scene I wanted to try it out also :) The attached image is a WIP raw render, without any post production. Comments and critiques are very welcome!

For the render, I used PT+HD, the resolution is 800*1200 px (as you can see, I'm working on an old laptop, not really capable of high resolution renders :) ). I just left the scene to render for a while, that's how it looks after 1 hour 48 minutes. For HD settings, I used "PT sample: 512" and "Max records (k): 2000". For PT, I had "PT samples: 16" and "MSI: 20". I'm not quite sure if these are the correct settings, so please let me know, what you think.

As many other people in this forum, I'm also trying out what this Corona renderer is capable of :)

I'm not saying, that I'm an expert in visualisation, but in the past 6 month I've tried to dig myself deeper and deeper in it to gain some knowledge. I'm a 3ds Max and Vray user in general as many of us in this field. So I've attached a scene of mine, that originally was made for and rendered by Vray, with it's own materials, etc. So when I wanted to try out what Corona can do with it, I went with the easy way, just ran the awesome script that I found on this forum to convert the whole scene and after some minor tweaks in the render settings I left my midweight laptop to figure out something while I went to grab a couple beers with some friends ;)

I don't really know what to say, maybe I had some problems to really understand vray and figure out all the details in the settings (it's hard to achieve a good render with my setup, because I can't just pop up every setting to the roof and say it's done) but the final result with Corona is really impressive. Thinking about it, that the lighting setup, the materials and everything was set for Vray and just after running a simple script (because I think if you originally create your materials for Corona, the result can be even better) it produced a better and more detailed result ...

If you feel like, please tell me your opinion, now I will sit in the corner, cry, and try to figure out how can I get better results :)

p.s. the images attached, of course, are raw renders.
