This is really impressive. Goes to show that you can use corona for all kinds of projects and art styles. Congrats!

Hi everyone,

I have the LayerManager always docked at the side to keep the scene as tidy as possible. The problem is that selecting objects through the layer manager takes a considerable amount of time more than making the same selection from the viewport. Say I have isolated 20 objects that are the contents of one layer. Selecting everything through the viewport is instantaneous, but going Layer>Select child nodes or click-shift click through the manager takes like 6 seconds, which can easily take a minute or more for the more populated ones.

The total number of scene objects is easily in the thousands. I am using 3ds Max 2021. Do you have the same problem?

Thanks!

This is beautiful! I love the textures and the general realism. Well done!

Have you tried the Weighted Normals modifier?

For some reason the prices have risen a lot recently, and availability in the 30 day territory. From ~2000€ a month ago to 2700€ for the 3970x.

Hi guys,

we all know how 3ds Max scenes like to get corrupted some times (maybe once-twice per project for me). So far I have been lucky in recovering most of the contents through merging the latest file or Autobak into a new scene, although usually at the cost of several unused materials or Render settings.

These previous times it's due to some geometry/Editable poly that got corrupted, but right now I am dealing with a file that gets corrupted everytime I save it. I can merge all contents into a new scene and continue working on it but if I save it and then try to reopen, I get the same Application error all over again.

I have tried to delete the ENU folder with no success, so I would like to know If you are aware of any other reason why a 3ds Max file might get corrupted. Also, when merging this file into a new scene I am getting the error I have attached.

Thank you

Have you tried merging everything on a new scene?

LightMix can do all that - wow! I'm sceptical about that but I'll give it a try. So much to learn!

Don't be, the flexibility it gives you in unparalleled (resulting in a larger CXR file though). The method I follow is:

1) If lighting the scene with HDRIs, then just add them to Render Setup > Scene Tab > Scene Environment > Multiple Maps (LightMix) and then Setup Lightmix.

2) If lighting with different Suns and their respective CoronaSky maps, then add every CoronaSky to the Scene Environment > Multiple Maps from the 1st example. You will then need to edit the CoronaSky parameters through the Material Editor and go Sun Selection > Manual, to assign every CoronaSky to its respective Sun. This way you will have the most realistic results.

Of course you should watch the tutorials, but this should help you jump start this, if you are in a hurry.

I am on a 3970x machine for 6 months now, and I am thinking of adding a second one to render consecutively. I am between the same 3970x or a 5950x, but I think the first one makes more sense, since I am used to the times it takes to render etc.
It's also about 2000€ in my country, and generally available (I hope I won't regret saying that).
(Also I have read somewhere about the 5950x rebooting randomly, but that may affect a very small percentage, or may be have been fixed by now.)

I would like to wait for the next year to see if anything new comes out, but not only do I need the second machine quickly, I also hope that those two will not feel obsolete with the new generation.

I am thinking of operating the second one independently and not as a render slave (copying the files over through the network and firing up 3dsMax and rendering). It may sound silly, but I have not tried Distributed Rendering yet, and with some crashes I'm reading about I think It might be a safe and not very time-wasting option.

In that case, make sure that the pc case has enough width. Mine has only some millimeters distance from the side glass (which I have removed for airflow), so I am sacrificing that RAM Slot. The case is a NZXT H510i.

I would like to add my 2 cents regarding the mouse: I have been using the MX Master 3 for a while now, and before that I was using the 1st Gen MX Master. The mouse has received only positive reviews overall, and I am starting to think that noone from those reviews is using the mouse for modelling in a 3D Software. The mouse wheel is really hard to press, which quickly becomes a pain when you have to press it constantly to navigate the scene. Add the overall big weight and not so light clicks, and the mouse quickly becomes very un-ergonomic, to the point that I have started to feel sore on my hand.

I am thinking of going either for a vertical one, or for a gaming mouse with easier clicks and more customizable buttons with better placement.

Everyone is different, but I would love to see more people contribute to this post.

Thank you, I too believe the real world performance difference will be minor..

The left one seems fine, for the new physical material you should plug the Glossiness map into the roughness slot, and then change the Roughness mode to Glossiness (under Material's Advanced options).
Some materials come with Roughness textures instead of Glossiness, so you don't need to change anything in that case.
