Title: Reflections on car paint
Post by: dzdesign on 2024-04-24, 11:06:45
Hi,
I'm trying to render some car models for paint options/swatches etc etc.

But the lights reflections are coming out a bit weird.

Attached are images and closeups.

Any idea why this would be?

Thank Yu
Dimitris

I might be wrong, but it looks that you are using normal map for simulating the flakes, so the broken reflections kinda expected.

It looks like bump on the clearcot (if used), which is similar to the base patterns.
If you are using Clearcoat, disable it bump/normal effect and see if the results are better.

Usually everything should be investigated - the model first of all. If everything is fine with it, check the material and UVs.

It could also be an issue with the model itself. Does it look correct if you apply a solid, non-reflective material to it?
It looks as if it had no smoothing groups. If that's the case, you can fix that by applying a "Smooth" modifier to it, then enabling the "Auto Smooth" option and cranking the Threshold value all the way up to 180.
