Hi guys,

srmarkovic mentioned getting this setup work with the server board Intel S2600CP2J. Including shipping and import taxes its about 200 euros less than the Asus Z9PA-D8 when ordering from the States to Europe.

I know I'm kind of late in the game for the Xeons e5 2670 but I got them and now its difficult to find a cheap board. I'm not a tech wiz and wondered if the server board Intel S2600CP2J would create any problems to setup as a render node compared to the Z9PA-D8.

Thanks all! This forum has been very helpful. :)

Problem solved. I researched a bit more and got the intel board, memory, xeons and I'm off to the rest.

Didn't want to chime in before but... I don't see a problem as long as the motherboard supports the V1 (or whatever version) family of CPUs.

From what I know what makes the more expensive boards better is the addons and expansion slots. Workstation motherboards (like the Asus Z10PED16) come with integrated sound, extra PCI-E slots and probably a ton of other "consumer" grade bonuses.

For a render node I wouldn't be bothered too much if my motherboard had 1 usb plug and 3 sata ports coupled with 2 pci-e slots. Then again, with GPU rendering on the rise I do think it is cool to invest a little more and at least get a motherboard with extra pci-e slots. If you have 80 lanes and ever want to go the GPU route... You'll be quite future proof :)

Hey guys, anyone knows a decent case to fit the Asrock EP2C602-4L/D16? Looking for mid tower and was considering Corsair Obsidian 450D, but not sure if it will fit, albeit it supports E-ATX. Would just go with Define XL R2, but having another of these giants in my apartment would turn on my wife's raging monster mode, so in this case size does matter.

i have NZXT S340 (cheap, good looking case with window - overall 40euros, full ATX and its tiny looking case!), did fit in it. not all screws aligned on tray, though. not moving, stays put.
google for this case, as many people with this case managed to fit it with easy modification.
