Am I the only one who's material editor is very slow with Corona...1st : my material preview quality is set to the default value (1). Every time I open the mat editor, 3ds max goes ''not responding'' for a few seconds, then all my mats get put in a render queue...it takes many many seconds until I can do something. I don't have a super duper pc (i7 2600k, gtx 670, 8gb ram) but I've never experienced that with any other renderer. Am I doing something wrong? My scene has like 30 materials in total.

Thanks!

I am using 3ds Max 2015 and works fine. Sometimes if I have loads of maps it can take a few seconds to render the maps. What version are you using?

Is this Alpha 7.2 or a daily build? If it's Alpha, you probably have to wait for the final version, if it's a daily build, post a proper report in the bug section with the build number.

I need to mention that I am using the daily builds, but even when I was using 2014 with Alpha 7.2 everything worked fine.

Please report this with the daily build timestamp you're using, there were similar reports and it would be good to have this one fixed for good. Make sure you also test the latest build and see if it's better if you're not using it already.

Is it with all scenes or with one particular scene? Does 3ds max has latest service pack installed?

I've only ever had mat editor speed issues with a crappy/bad video card. Had them all the time at work with a Firepro 5000, switched to the Quadro 600 and all was fine. I usually change everything (on the mat selector menu at least) to text only to avoid any potential further slowdowns.

I'm on an old i3 370m laptop with integrated Intel HD video chip, Max 2014 and I've never experienced any serious lags with mat editor. I guess this must be something system-specific like windows updates, graphic drivers or Max service pack...

I might have done something incredibly stupid which is probably causing this. I scattered a lot of instances with multiscatter, but the models were not proxies. I'l still do some further testing to see if it's that!

scene complexity should not influence material editor speed. If you can create a scene where material editor gets slower just because of some objects in it, please send it to me, I can probably easily fix it.

I guess it's just that my materials are heavy. Every time I open one in the slate editor to tweak it...it's laggy. In this case it's a very big hdri map (15k wide), and most of my textures are 6k but usually it takes 1-3 secs to load a material, but sometimes (relatively often with this scene) it freezes 3ds max for 10 secs (not responding). Not a huge deal but still. Important to note that it's the first time I have that many materials with that quality.

By the way thanks for the support, guys.

i must say, in max2014 material editor is very slow (with corona), specially with big scenes, even little change in material freezes 3dsmax for few seconds ;(
