[Max] Resolved Bugs / Re: Displacement issue (problem)
« on: 2022-08-16, 00:46:32 »
OK. So do you use the 32k map as a hightmap for the hole area like it's done in a game engine? If so, then I wouldn't use Corona displacement for this, but either 3dsMax displacement Modifier or some sort of vertex displacement (depending on the mesh structure).

Regarding the tiled 3x3m map, it's likely to small to be seen from 1 km or more.

Hi. I'm not sure what exactly the problem is, but if I  understand you correctly,  you're using a 32000px x 32000px bitmap to displace a 10km X 10km area. If that's correct you have 3,2px pr 1meter and that will never give any detailed displacement result.

This isn't caused by Corona, this will be the same for every renderer.

Hope it helps

Hi. Just tested it with max 2020 and Corona 8.2, and it seems to work as expected.

Remember that "Map fixed" means that black will be "From" value and white will be the "To" value. But with "Legacy" black will be 0% and white will be 100%.

Your scale-settings is from 40% to 50%, so "Map fixed" will be less visible than "Legacy".

Hope it helps

[Max] Feature Requests / Re: The most wanted feature?

Hi. I would really like to have the Clouds that's in the newest Vray. Wanted this for years.
Why aren't this on the list?

Hi. No. I do not have an active V-Ray license. But as shown in the picture, the problem is visible in 3dsMax display too.

Just wanted to note, that I have downloaded more than 50 Cosmos-models from Human Alloy, and so far only 2 seemed OK. I have also seen this problem in models from other vendors, but not as consistent as this.

Hope it helps.

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Cosmos issue with Human Alloy models
« on: 2022-06-28, 15:19:29 »
I got a problem with almost every 3d-model from Cosmos made by Human Alloy. Aperently the models lack smoothing groups, as it shows on the attached picture.

So far I've only downloaded 2 models from Human Alloy without this problem. The only way to fix it I have found so far, is to apply a mesh-modifier to the proxie, weld all vertices, and auto-smooth the mesh.

I think something has gone wrong in the process of creating the proxies.

Hope it will be fixed soon.

Looks like flipped faces are causing the problem.

IIRC there was similar reportings when using 4K. I think the problem was solved bu using UHD instead.

Hope it helps

+1000 for that. Absolutely needed for a long time.

You need to change CXR to EXR.

An empty GI slot = black light.

You need to put the "emit off" material into the GI slot in the Ray Switch material.

+1
Much needed :)
