Hi all,

we are releasing a daily build of the new version of Corona Renderer. Namely Corona Renderer 6 for Cinema 4D. This build contains a few fixes as well as some changes from the Corona rendering core. The core changes will be added in the following days to the changelog, but in the meantime, you can merilly test the new build.

Do note, however, that we removed the Corona Standalone from the early builds of Corona v6 for now, due to technical reasons. We will add it back before the final release, so stay tuned!

The changes in this daily build are in the Changelog, which is also linked above. Since daily builds are always in-development releases, sometimes those are just bug fixes (like this one), sometimes those are just new features, sometimes a combination of each.

Ok Got it! Thanks for that.

I thought there are some implementations of the new Core or features which is used in the v6 of Corona in 3DS Max. Because at the moment its nearly impossible to work with a cad model of a car manufacturer which is almost 2.5gb big in the Interactive Rendering Mode. When I am working in Cinema 4D and the Interactive Renderer the changes I make in the materials or just the selection of an object in the viewport or Object Manager is very very slow. It often even crashes. In additon the speed of changing for example the camera angle and editing the Materials takes quit long IMO. Its a completely different workflow in 3DS Max and Corona than in C4D and Corona, unfortuanetly. Still. I really hope it will improve in the future. Sometimes I have to wait for 20 sec each time I select something. And that is quit annoying tbh. Please note I only mean the workflow with the Interactive Renderer and not the render speed on both sides. My machine has a quit good equipment I can say: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX with 128GB of RAM and a M.2 SSD and Windows 10 Pro is running. Maybe my question is in the wrong thread here if so you can remove or replace it. One thing not to forget: I am not complaining its just my opinion what can be impoved from my point of view because I am one of the users who uses Corona Renderer for EVERYTHING. It went that far that I have kicked every other Render Engine out of my pipeline. Thank you for this amazing product. Its my second life love.

Yep, we'll be seeing some of the new stuff in the core pop up in the C4D version. For those specific issues you mention, especially crashes, do you flag us with those via a ticket or forum post? E.g. for the crashes, seeing the bug report.txt is always enormously helpful. For scenes where things seem to be slower than they should, having THAT scene by private uploader is super helpful (because anything we create here may not have the one key thing about your scene that is having an impact). We know it takes time to report each issue separately, and give things like the scenes, bug report.txts etc, but without them we may never be able to replicate what you are experiencing so never be able to fix it.

If you have reported those in tickets and forum posts, feel free to add links to those here if you feel they were sent in a while back but haven't been followed up on!

There is a bug in v6 if you go to render settings -> scene environment .> if you activate direct visibility override -> and add another sky nothing happens.

I have a minor issue with the Corona VFB...Mainly it won't go away, meaning I cannot close it. I can only minimize (or maximize). Also the image will not fill the VFB (see image below). I can zoom in and out as before but the window pane stays the same size.

When the changelog is posted, there's a download link. You just run the installer once downloaded, same as you do for a final release, nothing else required :)

Hi Corona Team,

I have noticed V6 is a lot more responsive if I do test renders using 3 Macs. V5 took a long time to stop all 3 machines and start a new one. A lot of times I would not wait for it to stop and send a new one and would freeze or crash. Not any more 👍 Cant wait to see the new features. I have a question with V6. If I send jobs to a render farm (I use Ranchcomputing as I find they support Corona best) using V6 will I have problem? John

You'd have to talk to the render farm about what versions they support - in general, render farms only support a version once it is a final complete build, and don't support daily builds while in development, but you would have to talk to the farm about that as the decision is theirs.

Bear in mind that the changes listed for Max will also be coming to C4D (as much as possible), so the C4D roadmap is more of an "extension" of what is also happening in the core. e.g. if all goes well you should see the new sky model, the new bloom & glare and so on, in C4D too. For example, the next daily should have the new Adaptive Environment Sampler in it.

The fact it is an "extension" is also why those things take a while to show up in the daily builds, because a daily build is release not just when we have implemented the latest Core from the Max dailies, but also when it makes sense from the additional C4D specific things that are being worked on (see https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=28970 - and an example here, we're trying to finish up changes to the Node Editor, and until those are done, the Adaptive Env Sampler won't be in C4D as that latest Core will only appear in the next daily).

can you please explain planned feature C4D-3dsmax material compatibility?

This means i work on scene in c4d for example and i give it to colegue using 3dsmax and he will be able to finish project without recreating all materials from scratch and opposite or something else ?

We have yet to see what form that will take. At the moment it's just defining internal things such that the materials are compatible - after that will come things like "How can those be exported, or moved between the applications?", which we don't have an answer for at the moment, sorry. That means exact workflows and what can and can't be done through those, will have to wait until development is further along. Long term, the situation you describe would be what we hope for, along with it making it possible/easier to bring over the Corona Material Library - but first things first, the internal stuff :)

we are finally releasing another daily build of Corona Renderer 6 for Cinema 4D. Apart from several invisible changes under the hood, we were able to include the new environment sampler, which obsoleted the Portal Material. Apart from that, there are a bunch of bug fixes.

We're still improving node editor under the hood, so expect some node editor fixes in the next dailies.

Hello,
I confirm that the HDRI intensity value doesn't work (also in the Scene environment). But you can overcome it by Corona Color Correct shader which got an intensity value.
But there is still yellowish tint error when you use it with HDRI, but you only need to restart interactive. :)

Is the scene complex (shading, lighting, geo...)? analyze the scene i.e. see what's going via info pass "Sampling focus"

here are some more informations.
Regarding the Sampling Focus layer, it's just pure white. Is it because of the problem with HDRI which can't be dimmed without multipass?
I tested the same file in Corona V5 and it's the same problem

From V6... Start was nice but slowly some features moved to Pool.
New Color Picker, c4d 3d max combine material, New standalone format, VDB, Material library, Multi-instance....!
Hope they will not move more to Pool...!

Not correct Viewport Preview Size (attachment) in C4D S22
Go Back to 5 :(

As v5 Corona VFB in interactive mode zoom x2 and you can't zoom out or fit

Don't forget increase corona icon size to hi def (4K monitor)

Yes, I confirm. With the interactive viewport the scene freeze for 1-2 min. Every time, every scenes.

In the latest version (11/06) there is a problem that makes it completely unusable: after 5-10 minutes 4d cinema crashes.
I tried with different scenes and it happens with all of them, even making a new scene.
It happens randomly.
Unfortunately this problem forces me to go back to the previous version.

Oh you say crash, but the screen shows something else rather than an actual crash.

Yes, cinema4d freeze.
Update: I try to reinstalling corona and now it seems to work!
nothing has happened since 30 minutes (before reinstalling, after maximum 10 minutes it freezes)

if it freezes again I tell you.

update:
after some tests the problem is back, only when "Enhanced OpenGL preview of Corona materials" is activated.
I tried to update the video card drivers too; It does not change anything.
the problem only disappears by deactivating the materials opengl.

A bug using texture map with Corona Sky object: Shader/ HDRI  or Light Material

1. Example with Light Material:

a) using .EXR directly
Looks like texture "loads" after a while, since it shows in the viewport, but still doesn't render in preview and shows following text on a shader panel.>

There aready exists a registry entry with identifier net.maxon.image.pixelformat.{Alpha#net.maxon.image.pix16f,Blue#net.maxon.image.pix16f,Green#net.maxon.image.pix16f,Red#net.maxon.image.pix16f}.



b) using Corona's Bitmap



2. Utilizing Corona Sky object > Shader/HDRI image map is rotated and any kind of rotation doesn't work.



3. Next, I got this in IR after changing HDRI to PhySky and clearing the VFB



4. Also note that bypassing the IBL issue with Corona Sky by using Light Material w/ HDRI map applied to a Sphere object creates excessive noise, full of fireflies alike... something like an old bug from the yesterdays (v4 I think it was).

Regarding loading the HDRI error:

I used to get that error sometimes in older versions of Corona using those Maxime Roz HDRIs. I'm not sure if this is correct, but I think c4d bundled those hdri files as an library asset from Cineversity. The conflict appeared after I started loading the same HDRi from my personal HDRI folder while also having that library installed

I have a similar issue as Burnin. Mainly I am not seeing anything from the Corona Sky Object in the ViewPort. No Simple Color, Physical Sky, or HDRI. If I plug a HDRI into a Light Material it works but I don't have the advantages of a Sky Object.
IR or Renders are fine either way.

Roundedges is somehow dependent on bump strength value - not sure if it's intended to happen.
Also, I'm not sure if the bump works correctly with native shaders (like noise etc.).

Best would be to get Xpresso Layout options... I would also love to be able to change colors.

Maybe I can help for now.
I created a very simple animation (cube moving from left to right), tried to render it and it worked.
Tried it several times, overwrote the files when requested.
Then I did other stuff. Lots of renderings.
Before going to bed (which will happen in a few minutes ;)) I thought I'd give the scene a last try and: voila! Asked if I wanted to overwrite the existing files, confirmed and boom.
Not just a freeze, even a crash which enables me to attach my top secret cube scene plus a bug report with all the bells and whistles.

Maybe it can help the team figure out what and where things are going wrong. And I am not TOTALLY sure it is Corona that's crashing the party (alone).
No idea, of course, that it is the same issue that iacdxb had, but it looks quite similar.

That should give you a workaround (enable the side panel) but I believe it's something we can fix too so that step won't be necessary and you can hide or show it as you choose. Keep an eye on the changelogs, see if that shows up :)

Time has come for one of the last daily builds of V6 of Corona Renderer for Cinema 4D!

As one of the highlights, we added the highly requested distance shader, so it should now be much easier to create various special effects, which depend on proximity to other geometry. Be it moss, dirt, water ripples, fog, etc... - the possibilities are vast!

As promised the last time, we fixed quite a few issues with the node editor, so we would be happy if you tested it out and told us whether you are still experiencing any troubles with it.

We also decided to add collection of anonymous usage data in order to have more information about where we should concentrate our development efforts. The new daily is highly appreaciated and the distance shader is a beauty - it is so useful in all areas!

First a question: What is "Caustics Adaptivity" and why or when would I want to switch it off?

Next: the Distance Shader.
The "preview text" (the red background) is upside down in the preview window (Distance: no objects) and does not change either once an object is assigned to.

Then there are some IR refresh issues.
Load the scene and run viewport IR. Select Circle.1 and move it along X. No change in the viewport. Disable the Spline Mask. The result in the viewport goes red (which is ok).
Turn the Spline Mask back on, the viewport stays red (which is not ok).
Restart the IR, all is back to normal.

Back to playing.

I dont see any difference, when change the size value. Size value can only change in camera tag, not in vfb. Values there can be greater than in the vfb.
Custom aperture can´t activate, do i miss something?

You are overriding the bloom and glare from the camera, which currently does not have the new lens effects. Disabling overriding it from the camera and control it in the VFB to enable them :)

Here it is - you need to uncheck that to use the new effects. Checkbox is probably enabled on loading existing scenes to ensure results are identical (it won't be checked in new scenes).

Using RC1 and having same issue which I think it was started from second last daily (30/06) and in Rc1 also same. I sent videos also of that crashes.

When start Animation, it stuck... doe snot starts and c4d hangs.
Render first c4d standard render 1 or 2 passes, stop and then start Corona render.. it works. Its like a kick start for Corona animation render.

When “Enhanced OpenGL preview of Corona materials” is activated in Corona preferences.
- Object with Corona mat becomes invisible when moved.
- When adjusting material settings in texture tag, object/ material goes invisible while adjusting.
- Object dragged to the content browser is invisible in preview window.

When “Enhanced OpenGL preview of Corona materials” is de-activated
- Object dragged to the content browser does not show any materials.

All of the above same as in Version: 5 hotfix 2

uploaded "1590536270_Corona-mat-viewport-issue.mp4" showing the material issue in viewport and content browser.

Corona 6 RC1 - MacOs 10.13.6 - C4D Studio R18.057

This is still happening in RC1. Corona 4 was the last version it worked.
Not sure what the "Enhanced OpenGL preview of Corona materials" setting is supposed to do, but it is unusable.
I'm using the content browser a lot, and every model showing without any material is not helpful.
Sure, I can "set preview..." in content browser, but it's just not practical to always render out a preview and not necessary for all content. 
Since it worked before, I'm hopeful you can fix this issue before V6 release.

Another great idea to use the distance shader (again after an example by Maru for 3ds max) is giving grass clean cut on borders.
What did we do without this shader all the time?!

Bump works fine here. Using Texture map or/and Noise, After or Before Filter, crnCC, UVWrndm, 3planar, Layer...
Note, it still takes higher values to become noticeable.
And Layering with Noises is really weird, like as if values get out of scale, either multiplied or powered...

on Mac VFB window can't be closed and the box with Render inside does not expand!

I can confirm that Triplanar > Filter > Bump does not work correctly and I will pass it on to developers to fix.
In the meantime, you can use (as you've already pointed out) Corona Color Correct.

Hi, I just updated to rc 3.

Hello llollolo,

I can confirm that this happens if you select the Color correct through Corona Sky Object Properties and then select native Bitmap.
I will pass this to the developers team. If you are more comfortable with using the native bitmap solution, I would recommend trying to use the Corona Node Material Editor with Light Material, in which I was unsuccessful of reproducing this bug, for the time being.

This issue is actually a bit more complicated than it seems. Going through your scene I will tackle two issues.

1. "fabric_03 - white" material: After thorough investigation, we've noticed that the Projector shader may be the culprit here. I don't know what the desired outcome of this material is for you, but skipping the Projector seems to "fix" the render for us. I've noticed that you're using it to decrease the Length and if that is desired, I've observed that if the input is not a simple file, but a shared Bitmap shader, the bump renders correctly. This is obviously not the correct interaction with the Projector shader and I have passed this to the development team for fixing (internal id=552946286).
I am attaching some of the snapshots of proposed workaround and a comparer for images with and without using the shared shader. Please note that I've changed the Projector Length to 100% on both axes so that the change is visible.

2. "fabric_03 - white - new" material: Once again, it is not necessarily Triplanar > Normal that is acting up, but rather Triplanar > Filter. Changing the structure of the nodes from Bitmap>Triplanar>Filter to Bitmap>Filter>Triplanar did the trick for me. I am not sure if this is really a bug or just the way Triplanar is implemented, I will bring this up for discussion with the developers. I am once again going to attach a snapshot of the editor. Again, please note that I've increased the Triplanar's UVW scale to 200cm for visibility purposes.

Is it me or is the Round Edges shader not working in RC4? It's not working on new scenes and reloading old ones aren't now showing rounding. Turning off the phong tag makes it work but that's not correct behaviour. It should ignore phong/normal tags and still round the edges...

I stand corrected! It was indeed that the main bump strength was set at 10% and needs to be at 100%. What's odd is that the reloaded scenes from V5, that work in V5, need the bump amount increasing to look the same in V6.. Thanks for the help!

I have a minor issue with the Corona VFB...Mainly it won't go away, meaning I cannot close it. I can only minimize (or maximize). Also the image will not fill the VFB (see image below). I can zoom in and out as before but the window pane stays the same size.

Same here. I cannot resize the VFB or the Error Reporting windows. The content will not resize to match the window. I have attached examples below.

Why install a daily build at all, now that the final is out? Also, you should be able to choose "Custom" and then choose S22 (if it wasn't installed in S22 before, it may not recognize the S22 installation without choosing it in Custom).

Also check that there is indeed a 'plugins' folder in the main C4D folder. By default, it is zipped within the sdk file. You can either extract that or simply create a new 'plugins' folder and then try Tom's suggestion by running the installer again using the custom method. Please keep us posted. Thanks!
