Here's the next in your "Know Your Devs" series! It's time to turn our attention to the Corona Renderer for Cinema 4D team, and invite you to ask your questions for our Cinema 4D lead plugin developer, Nikola Tomšu!

Here's how it works:

- Ask your questions in this forum thread
- We'll leave this thread open for about 5 business days, to give you time to ask your questions, then we'll lock it
- The developer will take a look through and answer the interesting questions, which we'll publish in the Corona Blog (probably a week or two after closing the thread)

So, what about that "interesting questions" part? Here are some guidelines:

- Please post only personal questions or questions about inner workings of the team. You can already ask technical questions in other parts of this forum, and this is about getting to know the developers as people.
- Keep your question relevant to the particular developer.
- Only ask, don't answer - even if you think you know the answer!
- It will be up to the developer to choose which they answer and which they don't.

Now satisfy your curiosity - post your questions below!

Not breaking any rules by asking a question, am I? :)

As a 3ds Max user I always find 3 things frustrating in C4D:
-lack of node based material editor
-lack of possibility to instance maps (e.g. use the same map in diffuse and opacity slots)
-I can never remember whether an object should go inside a modifier, or modifier inside an object, and it's different for different types!

Q: Is there something in C4D that you find strange, frustrating, or funny? (whether from user or developer point of view)

I'll go with a classical one... What got you into programming and what got you into programming plugins specifically for c4d? :)

So, we only have three actual questions here, which wouldn't be enough to make a blog out of. No-one is in the least bit curious about the people who are on the C4D team and who they are?

(EDIT, have tidied up the thread to leave only the valid questions... as you can see, not much at all!)

Seems like we will forever be the unknown soldiers making rendering in C4D great again :-(

- What steered you in the direction of Cinema 4D over the abundance of other 3D software out there?
- Would you call Badflash an 'office away from office'? And has that influenced the creative side?  ;)
- When not slaving over code all day, do you indulge in creating 3D images as a form "art"?

That's actually an interesting question to all our devs.
-Do you create any kind of art?
-(regardless of the answer to the above question) Are you interested in any kind of "art"? If so, what is it? (anything counts - film/games/painting/glitch art)

Sure. Clarification: I meant visual art in classic sense (photography, painting, drawing, digital art, etc). :)

That depends. It usually should not be. You could call it craftsmanship, but not art - it's way too exact and technical for that.

Hi There,

Thanks in advance to make C4D great, SO gratefull I can leave a cripple version of Vray for a proper render engine.

A question:

For most of us, the work we do derives from a passion (hobby, maybe). It is a conscious decision to spend all weekend watching buckets :) For you, coding for a renderer was it a conscious decision, are did it just come across?

Good morning dear Devs!

I read a post in daily builds just now and unfortunately you are right, the interest in you is not as high as it should be.

So, as I don't have any clue about programming, is it harder to write a render engine compared to other tools? I think you have to know a lot about physics, especially light.
Am i right?

Cheers...

I dont have a question but a comment, hope it is ok to share here:

I think you and the team are doing two great jobs!!!
1. Corona is an excellent render engin, keep do what you do there
2. The intergration and ease of use in c4d is just so well done!

Thanks for all the hard work and dedication, we do appreceate it!
