Hi everyone,

I need your advice. I need to apply a metal mesh texture on a polygone and the result need to be a creased metallic mesh.
So i need to the metallic mesh material on a creased polygone.

Do anyone has the tip for this?

Thanks
Nicolas

Are you saying your metal mesh texture isn't projected correctly onto a bent surface? What projection method are you using? Have you uv unwrapped the surface?

I agree, we need more info to help you.

Okay, so you need to create the creased geometry by manipulating a plane or cube into the general shape. Then you need a texture set with opacity, bump/normal maps to make the holes and the look of overlapping wires. Something like this:https://www.poliigon.com/texture/grill-tesla-wavy-criss-cross-001. Try that and report back with questions.

Yes i already did the mesh texture but it was more to create the creased geometry without modeling it.

As i already have the basic shape, i wanted to find a way to use displacement.

In Vray i could do it but in Corona....

So if anyone has a tip, i take it.

If you could do it in Vray, you can do it in Corona. But to get tips how to, you better tell us how you would have done it in Vray.

Unless you needed vector displacement, then you can't do it in Corona so far.

Hi Cinemike,

It's been a while i didn't use Vray but from what i remember i would have used a material with displacement (Creased normal) and applied it on the object, then i would have put the second material ( metallic mesh ) on the object and in the properties of the first material in the object manager i would have tick "mix with the others textures"

Hi,

it is basically what Ealexander suggested, plus "built in" displacement. A proper texture map will work wonders here.

There are other options, like using the displacer and a texture map, or displacer + cloner for real geometry, it all depends on the effect you are after and how close you will come.

Ask if you need more ideas.
Michael

PS
I would have rendered more tests, but the first one had to do, it is just too hot to render here ;)
