I'd certainly take all of that as compliments! I can see the Lynch and Kubrik too. All that's left to say is.... Encore!

It seems not, Alpha is a Shading pass and so can't use the Render Only Masks option (same in Max). You could disable all the lights and use a material override to make the beauty render faster though. Or you could see if you could use one of the masks as an alpha (if all objects have solid alpha) with a bit of conversion after the fact in PS.

Almost no questions posted in this one, not enough to make a blog post.... will leave the thread open for a few more days, but if no-one has anything to ask to get to know Nik, I guess we'll skip making the blog post!

So, we only have three actual questions here, which wouldn't be enough to make a blog out of. No-one is in the least bit curious about the people who are on the C4D team and who they are?

(EDIT, have tidied up the thread to leave only the valid questions... as you can see, not much at all!)

It reminded me (in style and theme) of the alien planet sequences from "The Man Who Fell to Earth" (though I can't say I remember those sequences ALL that clearly, but it was what popped into my head!) Cool stuff :)

A screen grab and swap between the two with Sat 0 does show there is a difference, ty! For me the question is, "How come Kelvin is never pure white?" as there doesn't seem to be any value that gives a totally neutral color. Whether this is expected / intended, I don't know, I'll leave that for the developers :) But it does seem that there is no value that is completely neutral in color (using the inverse Color Tint seems to be the only way to neutralize that).

The Saturation of 0.5 in the VFB does greatly exaggerate colors - with a lower setting, the light appears white. With that same setting, using Direct Input with a color of 255,254,255 also results in a noticeable pink (that is, even a tiny shift in color will be greatly amplified with a Saturation of 0.5 in the VFB).

You can use a Material Override (set in the Render Settings for Corona) to have all objects render with a simple clay material (and use the Include Exclude list to preserve things like glass windows that let light into the scene).

Most welcome! We are really looking forward to releasing it "in the wild" too :)

That's been the "all or nothing" work on the node editor for materials - unlike many features, it can't be released incrementally; it has to be working before it can be released, and of course it's completely new both in UI and code, nothing like it in C4D, and nothing like it in the Corona core as Max has its own Slate editor so we didn't need to write that there :)

Most likely it's the native Max Falloff map, plugged into the Diffuse slot.

Works fine here, both VFB open no IR, and IR - note that there is some sort of "pre render script" that the scene wants to run, but that I don't have, so not sure if that is affecting things on your side.

Max 2019, Corona 2 (would be good to know the versions you were using, and if you are getting a crash, the mini dump is always always always very useful - thanks!)

Well, he did create Meteora, which is a rather well-regarded project :)

You can change how often Adaptivity (and so noise level) is calculated, it's in the devel debug section. Do note, though, that the default of 5 has been chosen deliberately (so that things are efficient), but the option to change it is there - personally, I only change it for debugging purposes (hence the name of the section!) when wanting to watch closely what noise is doing each pass :)

Of course not quite the same as having a button (but why would you want that btw? Could you explain more as to why that would be useful for you?)

Thanks!

That's where a Direct Visibility background override would come in (but, that doesn't seem to have any effect when using LightMix, afaik). Perhaps saving it out with alpha and replacing the background in post might work in the meantime?
