(Not to forget that there was absolutely nothing like this to call upon, use, modify, or adapt - Corona has had nothing like this before, so it was new territory, being written from scratch from the ground up!)

Snag with the node editor is that there isn't really an interim version, it has to work (mostly) or not at all, and no point in releasing it when it doesn't work at all - it's very all or nothing unfortunately. The plan is for it to be out next week though as noted in the roadmap (of course first release of Beta 2 will be a release candidate, for everyone to test)

[Max] I need help! / Re: Same scene, different render times
« on: 2018-07-25, 21:15:18 »
My first thought on testing would be to look at what is different, and that's the ivy - I'd try hiding that and rendering the outside view and see if it makes the render time more in line with the other scene (which doesn't have the ivy visible). The fact that the ivy is all geometry does sound like it could slow things down.

Shame the stats aren't visible on the internal render to compare what you are getting on those (if you can post, could be interesting!)

If it's not the plants, then maybe the glossy pink floor (also not visible in the first image). You could also try a material override and see if that makes the huge difference in render time, in case it isn't the heavy ivy geometry.

This scene maybe made by 3ds Max? Do you using posteffects, or its only by3D soft?

The image was posted in 2014, and the user last active in 2015, so you may not get a reply :)

Awesome! We look forward to seeing you there!

[Max] General Discussion / Anyone going to SIGGRAPH 2018?
« on: 2018-07-24, 23:40:47 »
There will be three events at SIGGRAPH 2018 in Vancouver this year featuring the Corona team!

- A presentation from Ondra on the past, present and future of Corona Renderer
https://www.chaosgroup.com/siggraph2018#overview

- A technical paper from Jaroslav Krivanek (our head of R&D), and Petr Vevoda and Ivo Kondapaneni,  on Bayesian Online Regression for Adaptive Direct Illumination Sampling
https://s2018.siggraph.org/presentation/?id=papers_336&sess=sess135

- A course featuring Ondra (and Vlado and others) on Realistic Rendering in Architecture and Product Visualization
https://s2018.siggraph.org/presentation/?id=gensub_402&sess=sess259

Info on this year's SIGGRAPH at https://s2018.siggraph.org/conference/ - we hope to see some of you there!

I'd certainly take all of that as compliments! I can see the Lynch and Kubrik too. All that's left to say is.... Encore!

It seems not, Alpha is a Shading pass and so can't use the Render Only Masks option (same in Max). You could disable all the lights and use a material override to make the beauty render faster though. Or you could see if you could use one of the masks as an alpha (if all objects have solid alpha) with a bit of conversion after the fact in PS.

Almost no questions posted in this one, not enough to make a blog post.... will leave the thread open for a few more days, but if no-one has anything to ask to get to know Nik, I guess we'll skip making the blog post!

So, we only have three actual questions here, which wouldn't be enough to make a blog out of. No-one is in the least bit curious about the people who are on the C4D team and who they are?

(EDIT, have tidied up the thread to leave only the valid questions... as you can see, not much at all!)

It reminded me (in style and theme) of the alien planet sequences from "The Man Who Fell to Earth" (though I can't say I remember those sequences ALL that clearly, but it was what popped into my head!) Cool stuff :)

[Max] I need help! / Re: Pink Plane Lights
« on: 2018-07-20, 13:27:19 »
A screen grab and swap between the two with Sat 0 does show there is a difference, ty! For me the question is, "How come Kelvin is never pure white?" as there doesn't seem to be any value that gives a totally neutral color. Whether this is expected / intended, I don't know, I'll leave that for the developers :) But it does seem that there is no value that is completely neutral in color (using the inverse Color Tint seems to be the only way to neutralize that).

The Saturation of 0.5 in the VFB does greatly exaggerate colors - with a lower setting, the light appears white. With that same setting, using Direct Input with a color of 255,254,255 also results in a noticeable pink (that is, even a tiny shift in color will be greatly amplified with a Saturation of 0.5 in the VFB).

You can use a Material Override (set in the Render Settings for Corona) to have all objects render with a simple clay material (and use the Include Exclude list to preserve things like glass windows that let light into the scene).
