No, it's not. I think twoheads confuses Area to render: selected feature which is not very usefull, with MR Subset Pixel Rendering which is what we want.

Is that what render-selected does in other renderers ? Well that's pretty...useless, I could just isolate selection :- ).

I think everyone wants what you outlined in second illustration, just perhaps without the need to manually select it.
I am absolutely sure I've seen that feature in Arion renderer.

yep... but it's not a nameless renderer. That's exactly what mental ray does :)

I've never seen anything like this (lasso region render) before, but you are probably  right, anyway it was just my wish not an attempt to steel someone else's ideas ;)

Even properly implemented selection render has drawbacks. Regarding to stainless steel stuff we've recently discussed in other thread, when (let's say refridgerator) is behind other object, even if you pick refridgerator and render it, you end up with whole object rendered not the part of the image you want...that's why I think lasso is better.

No I perfectly understand. It was also my intended assumption, that it would render:

[your selection object] X [What is visible of it]

So it would render your 3rd picture automatically. That's what I think I've seen the Arion render does, but I will check. Or perhaps it was material selection instead ?

as I said before even Subset Pixel Rendering mode is not what we're looking for (my personal subjective opinion). But it's still better to have than not have.

In this particular situation (see below) rendering an object instead of actual part of the frame  is just a waste of time in my opinion, but as I wrote before it's just a wish rather than complaint.

Yes, it sounds like what you're asking for is how mental ray's "render subset pixels" works.

Edit:  Doh. Yeah, what romullus said.

So what's the problem guys? Implement it in corona and we're done ;P But seriously, I have nothing against mental ray's method, if it's possible in corona in the future - grat! and God bless you.

The only thing I find "extra" useful in "lasso" method is that you can select an object + also extra area you want. Anyway forget about it, mental ray's method will do :)
