Hi All.

I'm looking at building an AMD Ryzen threadripper 1950X workstation but have intel xeon render nodes.

Am I right in thinking that they can produce slightly different results? Or would they be OK working together on a small render farm?

Many Thanks

Andy

Normally Corona should render correctly on any hardware regardless of whether the CPU is manufactured by AMD, Intel or any other exotic vendor, so mixing AMD and Intel CPUs in a render farm is perfectly safe.

However, we've just discovered a bug in CScatter causing slightly different results on AMD vs Intel in some very specific situations. We're currently working on fixing this.

Heya, can you shed some light on your configuration? I'm investing in 2x extra threadrippers as well - any reason why you're going to AMD? Didn't Intel come with a counterpart for the threadripper?

Haha... You're BMing Intel a little :). They don't have answer for 1950x and for a 2950x they will not have answer in next 5 years.

especially if u take into account AMD is bring out Threaripper 2 in Q3 of this year, with a whopping 32Cores and 64Threads (TR4 architecture still!) -

I'm holding off my investment into 2x Threadrippers atm, I want to know how cheap / expensive the threadripper 2 will be...
