[Max] I need help! / Re: separate render
« on: 2018-07-03, 20:47:42 »
I had the same question a while ago. Render selected is what you want.

But may I suggest you use the Include/exclude list option instead, and then choose the objects you want to render. This way if you send to a farm or other computers the objects will be selected at render based on the list.

I foolishly sent an animation to the farm with render selected forgetting that when the scene loads nothing is selected :(

Cheers,

Any chance we can get PheonixFD Sims working with CMasking_Mask and Render selected?

+1

I would hope something like this would not be too difficult.

This is still a problem in max 2018 and Corona materials. Seems to work fine if you use a standard material. Its annoying because its just one more step for no reason.

I am very happy about it, but why did you choose 3ds Max as the main platform for your render?

Thanks for the info. Then why the pandering towards Maya then? Is Maya easier to write code/ incorporate features for than 3dsmax?
based on how it usually looks in bigger companies, they are not "pandering" in any way (such as "we are putting more developers on maya" or "we are forbidding max developers to add features" - they just have 2 independent teams, each working on single software, and one of them produces more new features for various reasons (such as legacy issues)

From what I can see with Maya is they are buying and slapping plugins as fast as they can. I remember reading Vlado commenting about how they are also slapping in lots of bugs into Maya by doing this too. They are more concerned with making Mayas look better, they are actually not going back, or have no time to fix the technical problems with the plugins.
I remember a day when everyone made fun of how many plugins max has or needs. Now I see the same thing going into Maya.

I can't believe my beloved corona forum is just a Max bashing forum now.  Sure the marketing people at Autodesk suck, but lets not try to act like Max has no good updates. Here is a list if your interested. max has never had so many updates in as long as I can remember. And a lot on this list are great for a lot of people. I really can't understand why so many people care about what Max gets, if they don't even use or plan to switch apps.

2018.1
Model Assist
Scene converter improvements
Arnold Renderer (that’s a pretty big one)
New MCG Operators
3Ds Max Interactive
Lot’s of Fixes and tweaks

2018.2
3Ds Max Batch
MAXScript improvements
Freehand Spline
Spline Influence Modifier
Spline mirror Modifier
Spline Morph Modifier
Spline Overlap Modifier
Spline Relax Modifier
Optimize Spline Modifier
Influence Helper
Path Deform Modifier (Complete overhaul)
Normalize Spline Modifier (Complete overhaul)
Other Minor Spline-related improvements – 2019 builds upon that with realtime animatable Spline Booleans, spline-end capping and twist improvements.
Lot’s of Fixes and tweaks

2018.3
Fluids (huge new feature)
Motion Fields and core-level motion vectors support
Arnold Update
Lot’s of Fixes and tweaks

2018.4
3Ds Max interactive Updates
Fluid Updates
3Ds Max Batch updates
Scene Converter updates
Importer improvements
Lot’s of Fixes and tweaks

Max 2018 icons and flat design are disaster, but Corona toolbar design isn't great either. The first three icons are obvious, but the rest of them... well, i can find what i need, only by reading tooltips :/

It will always be subjective. I think the new Max Icons are immensely more readable than any other Max release for the most part.

C4D, Maya and Max are all similar in icon design now (Max and Maya beign developed by the same designer). I still believe weather you like it or not, that the Corona icons should follow what the UI of Max is now.

I think the Corona Devs should contact the 3ds Max devs. I know they now have a design standard developed for icons. I would rather see Corona Icons adhere to the design standards, rather than every plugin developer making Max look like a Frankenstein of icons.

I took many years, but Max actually does have a design Doc an Icon guideline. Like it or not, every developer should use and adhere to it.

The 2018 max UI icons are 100% terrible. If anything the max devs should take a cue from everyone else! :)

I dont think so, but to each their own. I still feel strong about adhering to them though. Consistent is better than random icons everywhere.

[Max] General Discussion / Re: IR used to be interactive
« on: 2018-02-26, 16:44:54 »
I have a dual Xeon and I am noticing IR to be slower too. Sometimes I find it faster to just keep hitting Render over and over than using IR.

I thought it was just me, but I do notice it.

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Re: PhoenixFd Foam bug in Corona 1.7
« on: 2018-02-23, 20:47:25 »
It's "working" in the v2 daily builds, and will be "working even better" in the v2 final.
In 1.7 you either should not get any results, or you can get some semi-correct ones, as some volume plugins do work (Fume FX I think) as a side effect of implementing 3ds Max volume effects. That's what Nekrobul used for that fancy burning Corona logo image, which was very popular some time ago.

Thanks a lot for the info. I can't wait for 2.0 to play. Sadly I can't install daily on my work machines. Keep up the good work!

Just so I am clear. Is PheonixFD "working" in the 1.7 release builds? Or just the daily builds?

anyway... red-orange color is not good ((

Yup, they are not good at all. I would say the design of them is also not the greatest.

While you guys are at it working with Phoenix Devs, maybe you could pass along that their Help docs and online tutorials are the worst I have ever seen. I always give Corona a tip of the hat for their precise tool tips and well structured tutorials :)
