Hello, there are two things I'm struggling with.

One of them is adding interior lights to an exterior render. Is there a good way to do it quickly? I place lights in each room and it is tedious. Any tricks up your sleeves? I have a huge building to render with 100+ exterior windows.

Secondly, how do you guy deal with reflections from behind the camera on a large exterior scene? I'm working on a large building (see attached) and I would prefer not to have to model an entire scene behind the camera to have nice reflections. Using an HDRI helps but I really like using the new Corona sky and clouds.

Thanks for the help!

I think people use Corona because it has unbiased path tracing. I'm about 99% certain that Unreal Engine can't do 30-60fps real-time path tracing.

What CPU do you have? Did you buy a top-tier CPU as well? Or just a GPU?

[Max] Daily Builds / Re: CoronaPattern playground!

I've never been so stress-free when the designers want to see multiple cladding options. Corona Pattern is making my job almost too easy!

Very informative. Thank you very much!

Hello,

I've recently bought a monitor calibration tool which gives me an *.icc file. Should I be using this profile for all my programs that allow it? Photoshop, Substance, etc.? Does anyone have some insight on this? Color space is a deep well that I'm just scratching the surface of.

Thank you!

You can also increase altitude in Corona sky and it will give you more saturated blue sky.

Yup, I accidentally set my altitude to 5000m rather than 500m and it looked like the photo shared.

Beautiful, staying one step ahead! Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Corona Decal - Transparent Colour Map?
« on: 2022-11-01, 17:10:26 »
Hello,

I've been trying to make some reusable decals for my projects that matches the aesthetics of my city. I do a lot of commercial retail projects so half the render is always a parking lot. Today I was working on some tire depressions and got it looking good but I had to add the base colour and roughness from my asphalt material. Is there a better way to do this? I'd love a decal that just turns the brightness down on the base material and add displacement. My asphalt and decal material are shown in the attached screenshot.

General CG Discussion / Re: Revit/3ds Max/Corona

Hi JGallager,

My thinking is to use the model for interior as well to have a walk through and panoramas as well as the exterior.
As for the material I agree, I am planning in using Corona and expanding my library there but the workflow as is doesn't seem logical to have to always start from scratch if the model changes.

I apologize I thought I replied to you the same day. I must've forgot to hit post.

You can easily export new items from Revit, just isolate what you want in the 3d view and export selected. It sould import to 3ds max in the correct coordinates.

We always start in Revit so we can use them for working drawings. As soon as the exterior modelling is done I export to .fbx and start in 3ds max. I do all my materials in Corona. The effort to do materials in Revit, then convert them in Max isn't worth it. In my opinion.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Displace on the X/Y-axis only?
« on: 2022-06-15, 16:30:52 »
I don't have any reference photos. Just the three profiles we are using, which I have attached.

I modelled the trim pieces between the separate panels and it hides the overlap enough. I was just curious why there was a vertical overlap between the two panels.

[Max] I need help! / Displace on the X/Y-axis only?
« on: 2022-06-14, 22:10:01 »
I'm working on a rendering of a building which has multiple metal panel profiles. I figured it would be easy to make the different profiles with a simple displacement map but they are also displacing in the Z-axis and over lapping where the profile changes. Is there any way to prevent this? I've tried Corona Tri-planer on a whim and it didn't work.

Thank you

Hello, any update on this? I'm getting this error as well. Fresh install of everything.

Just install Corona again, it'll install itself to 3ds Max 2019.

This would have probably been better suited for the general discussion section. I was just curious if there was any tricks that I wasn't aware of (like self illuminating walls) to make the building look more uniformly lit. I will continue placing light sources in each room :)
