[Max] I need help! / Baking shadows with Alpha
« on: 2018-06-15, 16:20:18 »
Hi Everyone
Wondering if there is a way to do this

We are trying to bake a shows plane with the shadow of furniture when we bake map furniture
The shadow would be baked into a texture with alpha channel.
Is this possible to do in Corona using render to texture?
is there another method to capture corona soft shadows with alpha channel for use in a game engine?
Thanks ahead of time
Mike K

[Max] I need help! / Render to Texture AO pass
« on: 2018-01-17, 21:41:45 »
When doing render to texture, is it possible to do an AO pass at time as when you're rendering the beauty and lightmap passes?

Is there any way in corona to get an object to self shadow but not cast shadows on other objects?
I need an object to have shadows from itself on it's self, but not cast shadow on other objects
Is this possible other than using an AO setup in the shader?

Will do that, I thought that might be the issue as well, thanks for confirming. I am testing  including the textures in the same folder as the model and a changing the material setups too,
 will let you know.

I am trying to get into the Deadline forum, but if anyone knows that would be awesome

Backburner has an "Include Maps" options to avoid network issues on slave machines, would anyone know if Deadline can do that and what they call it  / how you access it?

I get you on the Dialogue, still a tease :

Since you guys are part of Chaos now, any chance you could adopt they way Vray does include / exclude for lights and meshes, it's way better than the max way of doing it and way faster since it sees the other models and lights in a scene.

The way we work is we have scripted all of the RRT baking functions so it unwraps and sends out the models in a Max file to bake.
Standard RRT baking.
This then gets sent out to Deadline as a Max file for each model that was in the Max file.
The files render on our farm. The texture maps are stored on the network.

Everything seems to be working okay on most of out bakes, but some times we get red renders on surfaces like in the attached image in the original post.

The only thing that's common about those red renders is that there is always a texture on the surfaces, surfaces without textures always render fine.

I am trying to confirm that that's what happens when a texture is missing or not loading into Max / Corona when baking, that the surface renders red.

If that's the case then I can start checking permissions on the machines that red rendered. Unfortunately it seems the permissions should be okay and that something random is happening,
most likely with our network, but maybe Corona.

[Max] I need help! / RRT coming out red

Hi there,
We are getting Red renders for bakes in areas where there are textures, I am assuming this is a networking issue, but if it's not or someone knows a fix, could you let me know what that fix is?
It happens sort of randomly. The machines were double checked for licences. I can only guess that they are lacking access  or permissions

I can't see projection on the main trello , but i can in the menu, it's it likely to hit with V2?

Hi,
We found what was causing the issue, one of our scripts hada bug, all good now.
Thank you for the info, I think that's what we are running

[Max] I need help! / [solved] Deadline render errors
« on: 2018-01-03, 15:03:51 »
Hi Everyone,
Starting last week I have run into an issue where a file I have gets a ton of errors when rendering on deadline doing render to texture baking

This is the error the render jobs are throwing up

Error: RenderTask: Unexpected exception (Exception caught in 3ds max: -- No ""select"" function for undefined

This is a new one, hoping someone can help, we're stumped here.

I am having a similar issue, the problem is Render too texture doesn't work well with that over ride material setup, we've tested it and it doesn't work as expected or at all for us when baking.

Why tease us with the options, I want one light only too affect a group of objects with shadows, and one other object that needs to be lit from the same light, but not receive shadows from it.

Thanks for the reply!

My guess is the slave rendering it can't find a texture, but I don't get that error is the deadline logs.

Here is the result. This is RTT baking, not projection for sure. Just capturing the texture / shader info in typical RTT fashion.

Hi Everyone,
I have a series of models I am using render to texture with. Different Max files, but the same meshes. Testing out various lighting styles.
I am getting a very random occurrence where the same model in one Max file renders fine, but lately we are seeing a lot of the bakes rendering all red or orthographic all white.
It's not a Vray material or non support material that's on the model either, it's all Corona materials.

« on: 2017-08-18, 15:45:11 »
Thanks :) We ended up remodeling someone else's model to be seamless. That worked and will have to be costed in
Unfortunately that can't be done in all cases so we'll use Vray for those cases or live with seams.

Does anyone know a way in Photoshop to cheat this? maybe render a mask that can make the black pixels be shifted slightly?
