Title: Is the 4K cache now the preferred option?
Post by: maou42 on 2021-08-17, 15:37:35
Hi, with the final release of Corona 7, is the 4K cache now the preferred option?

Thanks

It was the preferred option even in 6 :) The only time not to use it was if it caused you any particular problems, which only happened in rare cases (and should be reported if you run into one)

Thank you.

By problem you mean very obvious visual anomalies? Or is it not suited to specific scenarios? What I mean is that I want my scene to be renderered as accurately as possible when it comes to light transport.

The 4K Cache is more accurate and physically-correct. We are aware of some artificially crafted edge cases where it fails, but other than that it should work fine.
We would appreciate testing and sharing your results. :)

And problem does mean obvious visual anomalies (odd "squares" in the rendering). If you don't see anything like that, then everything is fine and your 4K is indeed more accurate and physically-correct - so basically, "you'll know it if you happen to see it" for it running into those edge cases.
