Title: lighting in closed interior
Post by: 30pips on 2014-01-09, 09:12:08
hi guys.
we are trying to find a solution for interior scene with corona simple light.
noise is a big issue with limited time frame.
we continue to check different scenes we came up with a new problem.
in close scene without sky or sun, the noise just stays there for very long time.
we rendered regions with 2000 passes and still noisy.
the only light is corona light.
4K geometry render almost 3 hours

4k  material render almost 6 hours.

corona 32 pt 16 sample light.

do you have any suggestions?
thanks.

Can you post this scene?

hi guys.

attached the scene model download link.

VER.2013

please test and share your results.
from my test it seems like whenever there is corona light in scene, there is a lot of noise

fast test...regions render.
300 pass

When I have time, I render image in 2K to 400 passes. (should be noise free)

full res.render 400 pass 1600*900

Have you tried with a light material directly on the neons ?

Hi, thanks for your answer.
Did you use the setting on the file?
If so that's not a good solution for us.
400 pass for 4k it's huge waist of time.
4-6 hourse for one photo with no material?
There must be better solution for it.
Thanks again, maybe there is other solution.
Thanks.

Materials should not make that much of a speed difference, if done right. And i think 4-5 hours on single machine for 4k output is an average rendertime.

Sometimes i get impression, that people gets spoiled easily by the speed of corona. Soon they'll start to complain about corona not rendering in realtime :] As myself, i came from mental ray here, so it never ceases to amaze me how fast this renderer is.

romullus,
That is not true, i think that render time is important stage in the project.
but, for large scale studio with huge and large scale project, we cant have simple projects like the scene that i upload to run 4-6 hours on one computer.
you need to let your client the option for changes in the project and be able to send it to him back on the spot, not after 6 hours render.
i really think that CR with the simple approach have great future, this is why i hasn't give it up.
i know that problems are  solved every day in keymaster castle, waiting for update soon...

30pips, try Arnold :) and then say that the Corona slow ))... or you compare with Vray with IrrMap -4/-2 and Lighcache = 200?
And yes, some projects require 4-5 hours for a pic in 4K, some less...depends from conditions!

Believe me, tried them all.
The reason I keep Corona relevant it's because the workflow process is fast.
That's not my settings for Vray, but your close.
I know that you understand my point, and I think that this is the reason why none of the unbiased renders engine compete Vray.
Slowness and noise is something that large scale studio can't work with.
But,  I do find Corona more friendly user and by far fast from other renders.
I hope that things become better as time pass by.
We will keep trying.

The reason keep with Corona it's not only because the workflow process is fast.
The reason is in the high quality result. Try any other render to get quality like in corona with same render time.

First line: make your art.
Second one: sell your art  ;)

Tomer, don't render 4K image before client's accept.

I tried your scene and there is room for optimization, you can gain some render time/noise by flipping your lights down. Why force them to bounce on the ceiling ? It's not even realistic.

i checked my scene, and all my light are down.
please take a look again.

They are oriented upward

This is what I get after 2 hours when oriented downward

Keymaster, we have "light samples multiplier" for lights, would it be possible to add an option to control samples multiplier for materials emitting light ?

Materials emitting light are lights.

In that case, the florescent on the ceiling are  correct.
It sopous to light on reflector and back to floor.
From our test with new scene, interior with natural light, sun and sky, render faster and less noise.
I think we will ask from the architect
 to open some windows, :)
