Hey there,

We have a constant Problem:

The Material Preview is very slow, getting worst when you go and "open window" to have
a bether View.

Any ideas??

I think you should update to Corona 4 hotfix 1. Corona 3 is an old installer

Is this for all materials or just certain one's that might use special effects such as displacement or SSS for example?

When I open a texture preview window, it takes up to 10 seconds to refresh this window after some changes with the preset quality of 3, but that's probably due to my old CPU (an i7-4770).
Changes with "expensive effects" like SSS take a lot longer, even with preview quality set to 0 and a texture window open, but again I blame it on my CPU.

another friendly note ;)

it's also maxon's way of automating all possible things - all previews in all windows get updated (even icons/thumbnails) so have at least windows open and as small as possible (btw, it doesn't matter, if you don't see it, it still takes resources in the back)

turning the preview quality down to 2-3 helped a little bit.
compared to 3ds max it seems to be much more slower is far as i can say.

i will contact maxon because thats not the only performance problem we are dealing with.

i keep you updated.

thanks everyone

I think that is problem with C4D, because sometimes C4D is doing this with materials, how many materials you have in scene ? Spec of you PC? Material preview level? How many is heavy your texture ?

Branko.

Heh, I actually have the material preview quality set to 0.1 otherwise things get unusable with 72 threads and the IR being on. Not that setting it to 0.1 resolves the issues but at least its somewhat borderline manageable.

I'm wondering, is this happening to you with the IR running or even without the IR?
