Gallery / Re: MOSCOW METRO concept
« on: 2019-10-22, 06:46:11 »
great piece! only thing that annoys me is that the Moscow Metro map is sitting so close to the wall-beam concrete thing, and that is being clipped by it, while there looks to be plenty of space on its left side of just empty wall :)   would love if it was centered on that wall instead, but I'm being picky. The quality of the images is very good!

The first thing that comes to mind is switch to PT / PT if you think the UHD has anything to do with it, and since you are doing a water sequence I suspect it's an out-door style shot anyway? in which case your get less benefit from UHD anyway, it should be quick to test at least, another thing I would try would be to turn off the bump map on your water, again just to confirm whether it comes from that or not.

I have personally had cases where a too fine bump would cause individual pixels to blow up and become really bright, then in an animation that would look like flickering. I'm not saying it's a solution, if you need the bump you need it, but if it works with it off, at least you know where you can tweak maybe.

Hi, I have finally been able to debug the issue. The issue was caused by a windows 10 feature called control flow guard. You can read all about here. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/control-flow-guard-windows

After I turned this feature off in windows 10. The performance of corona+3dsmax all improved all together with no lag whatsoever.

If someone ever experience performance lag issue in future, I would recommend turning this feature off on windows 10.

So did you by chance have chrome running on the side when max/corona was having issues? it sounds like the flowguard is reported to be a problem for browsers, but I imagine if chrome is dying, windows is dying and then max/corona will suffer too? or was this directly affecting max? I'm just curious, thanks

Would you be able to provide a sample scene maybe? at this point it might be easier if people can have a quick go at it themselves as often with these things, it's a fine balance between settings and approach.

I am also running a 2990wx and mine is even overclocked, there is no issues with corona.

There is however, a lot of issues with 2990wx if you don't have enough cooling or enough power! particularly when rendering, corona and similar cpu renders can make the cpu power spike like no tomorrow. I had it run stable until I started rendering, then my comp would die at random times, until I upgraded my PSU (got a silly 1600watt psu now)
Another thing is memory, the 2990wx is very sensitive to memory speeds and timings to be stable, push it too far and it becomes quite unstable, so make sure you memory type and brand is working with your motherboard and the cpu.

I can only recommend to make sure you stress test everything confirming its all stable, because if it's not Corona will find a way to make it struggle :)

[Max] I need help! / Re: How to achieve a fluffy yarn?
« on: 2019-08-27, 04:58:19 »
Thank you for the reply. That's the exact tutorial I came across in my searches and what I followed, however to no success. The yarn still looks fake and very flat. I'd stick with the Corona Scatter however it takes a lot of instances to achieve the effect which slows down the scene so much and rendering takes ages.

yeah if you start posing progress images and maybe one line explaining your approach, it will be much easier to give input and ideas on how to adjust or solve specific parts of it. Most things don't happen and look right on the first go, but it's hard for us to guess where you are up to :)

I think it's hopefully time for all of the issues that the layered material has to be fixed :D

I am totally behind this. LayerMtl is so useful most people will use it at some point and sometimes a scene has lots of them, but it breaks apart in so many different aspects whenever REs or RE-Masks are used. It's high time it gets some love and fixes... also we ask quite some time for fixes on this one... please :D

The fact that only the base layer gets displacement and bump calculated makes it nearly useless in some obvious use cases I find. I would love for that to somehow work, so one could layer displacement, but I understand it might be an easy request, but not an easy task.

[Max] Daily Builds / Re: Caustics playground!
« on: 2019-04-24, 04:21:50 »
I don't know or really think it has to do with the new caustics per say, but it's very clear that using an hdri with a more complex glass object, generates some nasty fireflies, made super obvious here with dispersion as they are all coloured.

I am running denoise "remove fireflies" on 1.0 in this test.  Is there any way around this?

So much need for this! love it!  15min's at 2500px wide, no denoise on a shitty 4core i7.  (looks like the image size was lowered through something, could have been FB where it was posted before I remembered this thread. anyway it's looking really promising!

lit with a single hdri.

Is the freeze for several minutes after stopping IR render a thing still or again?  anyone having this happen?

What is this "daily" build people speak of?  I have heard rumors of these existing, and once upon a time being released regularly... ;)

[Max] General Discussion / Re: 3D Studio Max 2020
« on: 2019-03-29, 00:14:04 »
Suggestion: never use any new Autodesk product and waiting for the first (better second) SP...

nothing is stopping you doing that, but many others like new stuff to be new. unfortunately max is relying heavily on a 3rd party eco system, so to keep new things new, we need everyone to stay up to date.

Hi,

So we are aware of the issue with the freezing when copying from the VFB.

We are also aware of the issue with the freezing on the cleanup/denoising. A workaround at the moment seems to be to switch away from the "post" tab, or to disable bloom and glare.

Please let me know if switching away from the post tab helps.

Our development team are looking into these issues currently.

Thanks for your patience

Hi Guys,

As I mentioned before, the workaround is to switch away from the post tab or to disable bloom and glare.

We are currently working on a fix for this.

Thanks,

Rowan

This happens if I stay on the "stats" tab too, now that it's frozen I can't switch to post and back to anything else. Also it still happens with Bloom / Glare turned off... seems to have 0 effect on the freezes when stopping the render.

Hi guys - on the latest corona daily after a render is done and starts the 'cleaning up' process, it doesnt complete it and MAX freezes.
anyone else having this issue?

Since yesterday we are having the same issue very, very often! :-(

Thanks,

Dionysios -

Same for me rondomly at end of rendering MAX freeze and only option is to close the process.

Config

dual Xeon 2687v3 64gb ram.

Thanks.

I haven't had this on the latest daily, but I had it on the stable build hotfix 1, and it doesn't actually crash at least for me if you just waited long enough.. 5-10mins sometimes, it would finish and be working again, until you stopped the next render. super frustrating to work with.

Next time you get a freeze, please capture a minidump and send it to us (see point 2): https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000524006
Are you sure that you are using Corona 3 HF1, and not some of the newest daily builds?

I will certainly try and remember to dig out the dump, I was in the middle of a hectic 2 day delivery so frustration clouded my problem solving thinking a bit.
Yes, running corona 3 hotfix 1, I haven't touched the dailies since 3 since it sounds like there is a bunch of stuff not quite working when reading the forums.

I will keep an eye out, thanks though everyone.
