Love the colour palette and simple composition.

Yeah portals will hopefully speed up some tricky interiors. What light have you used here?

The initial idea was to light this scene with exterior lighting (sun/sky)  only. The more I was tweaking additional fill lights, the more I liked the directly lit version. Nit to mention the horrible render times for noise-free images without portals.
This scene now uses light sphere.

The textures are bought from cg source, the eames chair comes as model from the manufacturer. The books are part of the book manager for 3ds max which can also be bought and.

@minimaldesign: No portals used, direct lights+GI only.
