Hello,

I am having a nasty problem that is not allowing me to work properly.

On the same scene, with the same camera, with the same lighting setup, I am getting the following results for a render in one room, and for a render in the following room in the same scene, I get a totally blown out image in photoshop (but it appears as almost black in CoronaVFB).
I have a delivery in a few hours which means this is going to be delayed :(

Kindly check out the images, this started happening after I imported some objects in the scene, although I checked for albedo on the imported items and all materials got passed by the corona converter.
Thanks in advance for all your help,
R.

PS: I edited the post and added another example.jpg to show how the black dots start taking over the image in a rather organic fashion around some areas until it all goes black (but with superhigh values in the CoronaVFB, and thus white in photoshop).

Hi, just found an oddity in the ambient occlusion pass using a substance texture on the diffuse and the displacement. Check the Brickwall displacement.

In some cameras it works fine, in others it renders the AO slightly blurred at some placest, as though the geo had some UV mapping issue just on AO.

Daily 1.2 version

Thanks,

Hello, I have been having the problem of using max 2016 for a couple of weeks already and noticed that the viewport is slowing down to switch from shaded to wireframe to the point of having to wait a few seconds (20-30s sometimes, depending on the number of Corona Bitmaps used on the scene) for it to switch. It was ok before because it was just a little, but now with the whole scene assembled it is unbearable to switch for a simple edit.

I tried moving the textures to the good old max bitmap reader and the VP is switching in the blink of an eye.
Any idea why? I can provide an example scene if needed.

Regards,

PS:

Using July 21st daily, but the 1.1 version is the exact same.

[Max] Feature Requests / CoronaBitmap - ifl support
« on: 2015-07-22, 01:57:18 »
Hello,

I have tried converting all of the Bitmaps in the scene for Corona Bitmaps, but I can't place an IFL sequence of EXR files for a timelapse sky that I want to illuminate my scene.
Do you fellows just use regular Bitmaps from max to achieve this?
Cheers,
Demetrio

[Scatter] I need help! / Corona Scatter UV Channel Bug?
« on: 2015-07-21, 23:28:57 »
Hello, I'm afraid I might have bumped into a Corona Scatter bug, just doing a double check to see if anyone else can confirm because I only have access to a single workstation.

Scale Map on UV channel 1 - #1.jpg
Scale Map on UV channel 2 - #2.jpg

There's of course the workaround to shuffle the UVs, but I'd prefer to leave them as they are and to be able to map other things :)

Cheers,

[Max] I need help! / Test render for animation
« on: 2015-07-19, 17:00:28 »
Hello all,

I'm on my way to getting the 1st animation done with Corona.

I'm pretty happy with the preliminary results (this is still a wip) but I'm struggling to get the time of this particular shot from 2.15h per frame to something more reasonable like 40 min. Glass in the scene is merely architectural glass (thin) and of course no caustics.
I know it is tricky being behind glass and all, but if any of you guys have tips, I'd be happy to hear them.
I checked the albedos and that step is fine, I got windows only to the left so there's a lot of bouncing inside the space

Thanks again for your time,
R.

I also attached the settings:

Hi, this has most likely been answered already but I couldn't find it so I'll drop you guys a line :^

I've commited the mistake of converting all my material bitmaps to corona bitmaps without testing speed, and I am reaching the conclusion now that converting corona to simple max bitmaps is not so easy. I was seeing if I could avoid the dumbing down job of having to change it by hand, anyone came across a situation like this with corona bitmap? Slowing down the whole thing? Even the shading (in max 2016,  in max 2014 works fine from my experience)

Does anyone know a nice script that can sort out my issue? Shouldn't be complicated at all to do it, can't understand why it is not there in the 1st placce :)
Thanks again,
Regards,

[Max] I need help! / Studio upgrade
« on: 2015-06-26, 01:35:25 »
Hello, I was trying to issue a Corona Render to the Deadline submitter and I haven't figured out a way to network render a Zdepth Element without AntiAliasing on the network over deadline - Does anyone have a clue on how to instruct Corona to Render Elements only without AA in Backburner/Deadline?
Let us know, kind regards!

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Zdepth Reflections
« on: 2015-06-14, 11:46:15 »
I am trying to achieve an effect which requires reflective zdepth perception from the materials - Like, keeping my focus on a background, then animate the focus to focus a glass surface, and then focus the reflection. Is this possible to achieve in any way with the Corona Renderer using Zdepth, instead of painfully having to render the whole of the animation frame by frame with DOF?

I know this is possible with Vray by correctly configuring materials to respond to all channels, but I couldn't figure out a way in Corona.

Thanks,

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Corona plugin Issue?
« on: 2015-03-01, 13:00:05 »
Hello,

I have been using Corona for long now, and I am very happy with it, and I purchased a license recently to give Corona v1 a try, implementing it my workflow.

After installing the executable file, I could never start max again (I get an immediate crash) , until I remove the plugin Corona dlt plugin files from the Max plugin folder.

I tried removing the files and Max gracefully recovered and started (and all other render engines are working just fine), but as soon as I replace the CoronaUtils2014.dlt and the Corona2014.dlr files, all hell breaks loose.

Tried removing all corona files and reinstalling, same result.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
D.

Gallery / 20 Gigabyte Masterplan test
« on: 2014-12-03, 13:42:21 »

I wanted to put Corona Alpha through its paces, and I just did a test with a masterplan on a real job and pitted it against vray on a job re-run. It's a kind of a slum like city where a school is being built. I was looking for some other masterplan examples on the forum, but I didn't find any, so maybe this is the 1st one?

RAM was somewhat higher than V-RAY (3 or 4 gigs, but that could have been also because the scene has changed a bit)

It crashed way less than V-Ray (could be something wrong with the multiscatter plugin and vray) but Corona behaved like a choir girl (very well) with a demon renderer inside :)

It's just a pity to see that Corona doesn't have yet a decent EXR exporter (something that Vray has and works very well) - the 3dsmax one fails to give decent results, and gives you an odd combination of alphas, channels, and overblown beauty pass for some odd reason. I'll  post an example of that later on.

Images are 5k resolution, and rendered for a couple of hours for 100 passes with trillions of polygons :)
The rendering results surpassed considerably vray in my opinion, it has way cleaner definition by default :)

The client only requested aerial views, the project isn't all that pretty but I'll try to get nicer images later and post them here.

Cheers,

I gave this renderer a test run with a model from a previous job, it was very straightforward the usage process, I just miss a decent scattering option and a nicer displacement quality and resolution control in the renderer ;)
I heard the commercial version has a new scatter tool, any changes to the resolution limitations of the displacement?
It would be cool to also have a good exr saving tool on the Corona framebuffer

Really looking forward to ditch vray after seeing the quality/speed/simplicity this renderer brings to the cgi universe

I'll see if I can get some more out today... ...I'm happy with this renderer.
