[Max] General Discussion / Re: Ambient Occlusion (AO Pass)
« on: 2014-02-04, 11:57:23 »
Ravalanche. I found and find BRDF AO very useful in the type of work i'm doing. And existing as where it is right now doesn't bother too much in my opinion. There is a lot more to cg outside the scope of arquitectural rendering where a BRDF AO pass can be used. I find most concerning and surprising that you guys are taking it out based on just the way you use it ( or not ) .

My two cents

Cheers

Hats off. Great work. I find myself modelling a little church these days and man they are a pain in the ass.

Oh never mind my question of a per camera basis. Just saw keymaster post about the camera mod., will have to use the physical cam ISO for this it seems.

Wait. Who are the mammals revenging against!? The dinosaurs are already dead, aren't they? :)

Ravalanche

Is ISO simply representing the render dialog exposure compensation?   would it be possible to have exposure compensation on a per camera basis as independent as the render dialog one? Just probably saying the same with different semantics but in situations where there are multiple cameras in the same scene it could be useful. I personally don't find the imitation of a physical camera too useful but if there is a "physical" camera then it should be as flexible as the most manual of cameras to the most automatic ones ( on a per camera basis ).

That's awesome haggi!. Looking forward for more !

Hey keymaster.
I'm sure you are quite busy implementing exr2 and stuff like that :) so I guess CoronaScatter is not your main priority but while playing with some scattered plants and trying to put the camera in a low area not knowing if will end in front of a branch i thought maybe being able to "load" a custom made object for displaying could be a useful feature. Sometimes trying to represent at full res could be quite slow and many times bounding box might not be enough.. Even in points can get quite slow if you are scattering high poly objects and if composing something in a scattered area is a priority this option could be pretty useful  ..

Cheers

Nice indeed. Altough only by your detailed comment i actually noticed the hair work. It is pretty obvious on the edges of the wings but there is something odd about the way specularity feels on the left wing.. As if you were actually lighting a flat surface with high reflection and low glossiness. The blacks particulary could feel denser with micro clumps of high spec. Not easy i guess with no hair shader to play with but improvable  . Anyways that's just my opinion looking at the ref picture. I have never tried to render such thing myself :p

this is most definitely a bug, can you post the scene?

Please don't make me look bad and fix this ASAP :D

Bulgarian technology! :p

hahaha ..sure we do seem to request all kind of things!

Maybe a Tetris interactive rendering bucket mode!? ( hey..that's not even a bad idea ..imagine the level of addiction! )

Vicnaum. please don't take my comment wrong. i'm simply protecting my own "features agenda" :)  ..If you already use Nuke for Color conversions, chroma, lens dist, etc you are already using the most suitable tool for the job.

I wouldn't wish keymaster to end managing film profiles over other things:). Nuke already does the job perfectly.  Maybe being able to load a lut  in the vfb just for preview purposes ...
Same with lens distortion effects. What is the point of doing that on the renderer level?

Sorry, i woke up cranky :p

Maru is right on this it seems.
I have the same problem with my old xw6600 ( dual E5420 ). Seems to perform really bad for some situations. I haven't get my head around Corona yet but at first look and by checking the stamp on renders posted on the forum  the amount of rays that that setup crunches in any given time seems particulary small :( .. In certian scenes.
I'm getting a 4930k and will keep the dual for backup ( still a fine machine for other things )

Would someone be kind enough to record the training session?

Now this would be awesome for anyone using nuke or similar on the compositing side:

Keymaster. How hard could be to implement this?
