Thanks TomG for the reply. I guess a GPU IR is completely out of the question. I've been using Corona for about 5 yrs now, for mostly low poly product renders which it is perfect for. However, we're beginning to add architectural context to the shots now and Corona just seems out of its element. I have to use IR like the old school test render: render for 5-10min to verify lighting materials etc. - cancel the render - adjust scene settings - render 5-10min - cancel - adjust - render etc, etc,

Is anyone else having this issue?

[Max] Feature Requests / GPU Option for Interactive Render
« on: 2021-05-20, 20:17:56 »
How feasible is it to offer an option to use GPU for the interactive render?
I am rendering a scene with 3.9m faces, one Corona Sun and an environment map. If I start the interactive render, CPU use goes to 100% and 3dsMax starts lagging tremendously, like click and wait 15-20sec for a response. Click once too often while waiting and Max will crash. While the CPU is maxxed out, the GPU is sitting at 0%...

I have  Xeon W-2125 @ 4.00Ghz, 64GB Ram, Quadro RTX4000, running Win10 Pro for Workstations

Thanks, Sean

[Max] I need help! / Re: No Texture on backside of glass
« on: 2019-03-13, 17:14:01 »
Just using basic Corona material with refraction set to 1.0.
Just noticed that if I check "Thin(no refraction), the texture renders correctly.

Losing the refraction is not very helpful when rendering 1" glass.

[Max] I need help! / No Texture on backside of glass
« on: 2019-03-13, 17:08:01 »
I'm having a problem texturing glass material. Example: a 1" thick glass table top with all sides smooth except the bottom which has bump texture applied. The glass top renders as though there is no texture at all. Smooth glass all around. However, moving the camera to view the bottom of the glass directly and the texture renders. Move the camera up to view from the top, the texture disappears.
A bug in Corona? or just a setting that I'm missing?

BTW, same result using displacement

Exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks!!

Is there a way to select and apply specific colors to the render elements when rendering the mask layer? Corona apparently selects random colors to apply, and sometimes they are very similar. It would be nice if I could define which colors were applied to which object in the mask. Is this possible in 1.6?

[Max] I need help! / Re: CXR File Save
« on: 2017-05-09, 14:51:22 »
Just for clarification on the situation (others can confirm if this is what they experience)

- Save to CXR from the Save option in the VFB, creates only one CXR with all the layers contained in it.

- Saving to CXR using the automatic 3ds Max "Save file" option creates one CXR with everything in it, plus a collection of separate CXRs for each render element as well

This is correct, Tom. I was hoping there was a way to prevent the separate element CXR's from saving with each render, but apparently it is a 3dsMax issue.

thanks

.cxr saves all elements into single file, so you dont need to worry about it - just one .cxr is enough

Actually I'm asking if there is a way to save only one .cxr file. We only use one cxr file, but Corona insists on saving a cxr file for every lighting object in the scene. It takes time to go back and clean up the render folder by selecting and deleting the unused and unnecessary extra cxr files. Is there a way to prevent Corona from saving these extra files??

The new Image Editor feature and the ability to save as EXR/CXR is awesome!
However, I was wondering if Corona requires that all Render Elements be saved as a separate CXR file? I have 4 lights in the scene + Environment + Interactive LightMix enabled, and when the render is complete, I end up with 6 files being saved.  The original output file(the one I named for output in the Corona Setup window) contains all the lighting info, so what's the point of saving out these other files? It's easy enough to delete them, but seems like saving all these files should be an option that I could turn off.

Seems like a logical path to pursue would be to resurrect the alpha standalone and make it a full featured standalone that would be available for users of any of these 3d apps.
Any chance of this happening?

Thanks jpjapers, I guess this would work while we wait for the standalone in 1.6. Thanks Ondra for the update on what to look forward to in 1.6!

It appears that the LightMix and Post adjustments are only available in the render window itself and all adjustments must be made prior to closing the render window(or before the network render finishes and closes the window automatically). This is fine if you're doing individual renders on a local machine, but we render many images simultaneously and then come back and do post. Obviously, we are not able to edit the lighting scenario on multiple network renders simultaneously. Is there not a way to save all this lighting info within the file itself and call it up when ready to do post production(similar to Maxwell Render)?
If this feature is not available. perhaps we could make it a priority??

Awesome update to the features in 1.5! However, I'm wondering if there is a way to save the ability for the LightMix adjustment when rendering via network? When rendering locally its no problem, but when the network render finishes, the render window closes. Is it possible to re-open the image in the render window to adjust the lighting? What am I missing?

Thanks

[Max] I need help! / RenderPal V2 for Corona?
« on: 2016-07-14, 17:30:00 »
Anyone here using RenderPal? I need a server that will enable multiple renders consecutively and read somewhere that RenderPal was recommended for use with Corona. I downloaded RenderPal and started through the manual, but the 'easy to understand' instructions appear to have been written by, and for programmers and IT pros. Anyone have any  success setting up and using RenderPal? Or other render server?
