It would be SO useful if you could handle more things by User Property   - one of the top items on my list is the switch between maps or materials using Corona Map Select  or Corona Materials Select , but it could also be fx. Corona Mix Map, or maybe even Multimap.

Sitting with a collection and trees and make Material setups for the four seasons. I do it by making a CoronaSelectMtl with four materials - which work fine  - BUT it could be SO much cooler if you could switch the Selected material by a global variable in your scene  - could be a Gizmo with number list or textbox. You could then reference this Variable Gizmo on all the relevant selectMtl's and you could fx. change season on a whole scenes vegetation by one click!

This could be relevant for both the SelectMap and the SelectMtl.

By the way, it could be a big help too if you could add a customized tag to each item in the SelectMxx  - like you can in the MultiSub Material - this could make selection choices more clear.

Thanks

[Max] I need help! / Liquid in Glass - Bug or is it me?
« on: 2021-07-28, 19:07:55 »
I don’t get it!!!
Playing with various liquids in a glass with the new Physical Material in Corona 7 for MAX

Apparently it is not possible to have the glass and the liquid in the same object - separated by a Material ID?? Which I think is unfortunate  - We mostly keep our assets as one object, and it hasn't been a problem before the new way of calculating volumes.

I have followed the description on Corona Helpdesk having the liquid overlapping the inner faces of the container - and I have setup a test scene where i have done the following:

I have a box  10x10x10 cm for the liquid, Mat ID 2. Copied the box, removed the top face and added a  shell modifier with inner amount=0,2cm and outer amount =0,3 cm - this should ensure that the liquid would overlap with 0,2 cm on the sides and bottom. I have assigned mat ID 1 to the container.

In the back row I have them as separate parts and as loose parts placed correctly inside each other. I have copied the two objects and attached the inner to the outer ( liquid to glass).

I have also made a lathed object in two versions  - one with two splines, the container and the liquid. Each spline has its own Mat ID, 1 for the container and 2 for the liquid.

The other version is made with the splines separated and lathed with an instanced lathe modifier.

I have made a multisub material with the glass on ID 1 and on ID 2 a corona selector material with 6 different liquid materials. One using the new Physical material preset for water and the rest taken unedited from the Corona Material Library.

The scene is lit by an HDRI only.

You can see the result on the attached images.

So my question is …

a) Is it really true that the liquid and the container must be in a separate object to calculate right?

It seems like Corona can’t find out which is which, as the sides of the liquid get the color of the glass absorption color ??!!

b) there are some strange artifacts in the attached objects, some black lines - I can’t find out where they come from  - it's not a reflection of the texts - as I have tried to render the scene without and the artifacts were still occuring .

Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong?

It would be cool if you could use the multimap as a switch for a color range as well.
There are occasions where you want to keep a pallette of colors - i.e. product colors - and its not always you want to have the colors selected randomly - in other words you could use the CoronaMultiMap as a placeholder for a number of colors - a pallette - and you could select one of them as THE color; but being able to easily switch between the predefined colors.
I know it can be done by making a small map holding the whole palette - and then selecting a color by cropping to the area with the wanted color  - but .... :O)

Gallery / Vipp Kitchen In Scandinavian Apartment
« on: 2017-06-30, 15:43:09 »
This is a small private project experimenting with the cool products from Vipp as well as Corona's Image Editor.
Another goal for this project was of course to get as close to photorealism as possible, playing with light, camera settings and DOF.
Everything in the scene is 3D, the room, the furniture, all the probs on the tables and shelves, the trees outside as well as the apartment building across the street.

Following software has been used:
- AutoCAD Architecture, the genral building model
- 3DS MAX 2017 w Corona Renderer 1.6
- RailClone, for kitchen cabinet layout, mouldings, radiators, piping and paneling
- ForestPro, for exterior trees
- Corona Image Editor 1.6
- Adobe Photoshop for texture editing and for minor corrections of finished images

More images can be seen at:

It would be nice if the Save CXR were using the same Dialog box as the save Dialog box for Images. That is, the one with the naming template option.

I have sent the request beneath to Behance Support, as I think they have totally disregarded archviz in their categories, - and I am quite sure that I am not the only one that miss a more precise category for our work. I'll suggest you to do the same - as multiple requests may convince Adobe that this is a real need.

"As a 3D archviz visualizer I am happy to add my work to Behance to get it out in the world. What I'm not so happy with is the categorizing of my projects under Creative Fields. Since is not in your list 3D archviz I have to mark it as architecture, illustration, digital art, ect  - but none of them cover the essence of my work. I see that a large group of 3D archviz people have the same problem on Behance. Isn't it time to include some categories that cover 3D architectural visualization??? It would be a great help for me, my fellow 3D archviz people as well as people who try to lookup our work.
Thanks in advance"

It would be cool if you Coulter add  'keep aspect / proportions' option in real World Scale on Corona Bitmaps. Should be an easy task to do but has tremendous effect on the workflow, - at least for me.
I have never really understood why this feature has ben left out, as it extremely useful.

Thanks

Just a little study of new functions and models.

Mainly to test Corona 1.5 Tone Mapping and LightMix.
The windows, mouldings, floor panels, pipes and radiators are done using RailClone.

Xmas version:
The Xmas tree with decorations is done using Growfx.
The festoon outside is done using ForestPro.

Only minor color and light adjustments done outside Corona / MAX

Merry Christmas to all you fellow Coronauts

Visualization of high range apartments made in an old print house on Vodroffsvej, Frederiksberg, Denmark.
The project consisted on 3D visualization, design and production of web-site, building site banner and printed sales material.
The project has been done in collaboration with Woods Brand Marketing. See more at www.hassinghus.dk

Technical data:
The exterior building is made in Revit, and modified in 3DS MAX
The landscape, trees and plants, cars ect are made in 3DS MAX. iToo's RailClone and Forest Pro has been widely used.
The interiors are mostly modeled in 3DS Max, with wide use of RailClone for getting a optimized and easy changeable model.
Post has been done using Photoshop.

Hope you like it :)

Hi,

It would be GREAT if Corona would support Vector Maps in all Channels - at the moment it is only supported in the Diffuse Channel and it also works in the composite map as a layered diffuse map - but I haven't been able to use it on other channels. It is fx. not possible to use the very useful vector map as a mask in layered material, mix or blend - which could be very handy when you make decals or road lines or road signatures - well ton of things.

The good thing about vector maps is essentially that they are not loosing quality, as it is a vector map,

My main use would probably be in connection with a visualisation of streets - one vectormap can be used for road stripes and signatures in an entire city. No more uvw wrapping - wouldn't it be quite cool?  As mentioned it works at the moment using a composite maps in the diffuse channel - but it could be much cooler if you could use it as a mask - on all channels.

Cheers

General CG Discussion / 3DS MAX Measure function as toolbar
« on: 2016-06-01, 10:58:30 »
Hi there, I'm using the 3DS MAX Measure function quite a lot often as the floating dialog - but it always come in way, for some reason. So I have been wondering if any of you has met or are able to fast code the measure floating dialog - but as a toolbar, so that it can be docked in Max's surrounding frames.

Off-Topic / Royalty free art for use in ArchViz???
« on: 2016-02-09, 14:30:51 »
Anyone who know a good place for getting royalty free art that can be used in my visualizations? With this I mean paintings, posters ect.
I know I can get some by Google images, but it is quite limited though. I also know that many of you probably would say, why bother - just get it from the net. But my customer is quite strict about using legal content, and since we will go "very public", we don't want to risk an claims.

How are you guys handling this problem? I have been in touch with the national copyrights authorities, and they say that as a rule of thumb all commercial use of content such as images of paintings, photos, posters ect. is protected by copyrights, unless the artist have been dead for more than 70 years. I see many paintings used around on the viz galleries, so either you don't care/bother or you have got it from some kind of royalty free source.

(I don't know if this is the right category to put this topic in, if not, then feel free to move it.)

Thanks

Hi, as we in ArchViz often deal with light fixtures, and since since its to some extend is possible to make plausible lighting just using materials there come a need to easy switch lights on and off. I normally do it by setting the multiplier to 0, but the problem is then to remember what the setting is when turned on. Therefor I think it would be great with an On/OFF button on both the lightmaterial as well as the std corona material self-illumination section.

Hi there, this is not a Corona feature request - and then again it is - at least related to it.

It's about Helpdesk. As helpdesk is a dynamic document that will change all the time, the need for knowing when things has been updated or added is arising.

I have often been going through  the solutions section, to get inspired for new ways of solving things, - and been stumbling over new articles, - and later been irritated that there wasn't any overview showing the new things.

So in other words, a kind of changelog or index based on date would be much appreciated.

thanks
