Title: Fireflies
Post by: studiobasler on 2017-11-22, 11:21:47
Hello,
i cant get rid of these fireflies. Im using a hdr environment to lit my scene. Everything else is perfect but i cant reduce noise/firelfies in this area. I reduce max sample intensity to 15 checked my glass material and i cannot find any issues. Im using a light material for the car lights with an intensity of 4. Any tips what i can do next? Noise Level is about 1.9%. after two hours of rendering.

Cheers Christian

Hey man,

Have you tried using the denoiser for the job? If you don't want to denoise the noise you can just use the firefly setting.

Do you have caustics (slow) ticked in refraction channel? Try to untick it and render again. Other than that you can try with path tracing or uhd catche (depends which one you use).

These fireflies are caused by the reflections randomly picking up the sun disk, and since there is motion blur involved, the effect is even more apparent.
Lowering gi vs aa should definitely help (to 8-4), and you can read more about a similar case at:

Hi at all,
about the fireflies how can I fix them if using lights+volumetrics?
About lights:
uncheck. visible directly, in reflections, in refractions

I'm using corona 4 hotfix 3 on Cinema R20

thanks

Hi, How many passes have elapsed at the time of this example? Are you able to share the scene with us via our private uploader? Only staff have access to this. If so, when saving please use the "save project with assets" option to ensure all textures are linked to the scene.

Hi, in the preview not much passes, but the fireflies remains in the HD too (about from 8 to 10 hours render time). As you could see in the preview I attach below
I tried both with Corona 4 Hotfix 3 and Corona 5 last build with Cinema R20
I could share with staff not the complete scene, but only a shred (setup scene, some lights and some geometry). Is it ok?
thanks

I downloaded the Corona 45day trial after getting Corona recommended.
And i am also getting some issues in this one test scene i am doing with fog and fireflies.

But in my case i am using 3ds max 2020 and Corona 5. I googled the issue and came to this thread.
I used the uploader and uploaded the max file with its assets ( i think i uploaded it twice actually.... sorry)

Here is 2 pictures, one with denoiser on and one without.
It has rendered 357passes.... i dont know if that is alot or not.....i really dont know.

Hi Mats,
You posted in the wrong place. This is Corona for C4D section. For 3ds max related issues, please start new topic in this board: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?board=29.0

Yes i was aware, i was just thinking it might be interesting to see that the issue might be cross both platforms.
But i'll start a new thread in max section as well, thank you.

cheers

Hi, Change the HDRI quality. Try to use a better quality to illuminate your scene. ;)

About fireflies,... I'm not sure if this is the solution you are looking for, but I've had my share of frustrations how to get rid of them and at the end I found that I had better results if the sky reflections were not produced by a HDR/EXR file but rather with a regular bitmap.
So now I have the habitude to seperate the two like so:

I have a sky with a JPG/PNG/TIF , with compositing tag to enable for background/reflections/refractions/mask
and a sky for lighting with HDR/EXR file with compositing tag to enable for GI and shadows

Again, I'm not saying this is the better way to go, but it works for me...

Cheers,
