It would be convenient for us to be able to raise the base layer level above 1 as a quick way of controlling brightness for the whole material.

I don't fully understand this request. Can you please elaborate and show us some use case scenario? Why would you not use Corona Color correct to make diffuse texture brighter?

Sure.
In a scene with hundreds of objects, many were purchased...Getting in the material and having to add a color correct node for each takes much longer than just raising the base layer level.

Also, with trees/plants, which have translucency, I would need to add a color correct for the diffuse and the translucency bitmaps. With the base layer level I can control all of it at once.

You can use the CoronaRandomizer (Vegetation tools) if you like, it can color correct multiple diffuse/translucency selected materials/objects:

Will definitely give it a try.

Something I didn't mention before, I already use base layer level to adjust the albedo, as described here:
https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528323859601-What-is-Albedo-
So why not use it to increase the level above 1 if we wanted to?

My hunch is that its capped at 1 since the Physical material is based on the energy conservation model, so artists dont break stuff when dealing with Physical materials :D

edit:
Ah I just realised the Legacy Material is also capped at 1.0, odd. It would be nice if even the legacy had some artistic flexibility, unless that was also designed with that intention/limitation.

Thank you for the script.
I'm using it and all good so far.

For the devs: I still would like the base layer level to go above 1 though.
