Hi guys

I am currently using this build as workstation - i4770k, 32gb ram, gtx660, gigabyte z87p-d3
and this one as a node - i4790, 32gb ram, built in gpu, gigabyte z97p-d3

I recently started to experience problems with low RAM when working with large aerial scenes and 8k resolution so the question is - what possibilities do I have if I want to upgrade these computers for the best value possible? (under 1000 euro, the less the better - ideally under 700)

Thanks a lot

32GB is max RAM size that those CPUs can handle. (i4790k & i4770k)
Sell both & make a better one... look in to this thread:

from my experience 2xE5 2670 performs ~4 times faster than i7-4770K, so i think it would outperform your WS+Node.

so my suggested build looks like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-Z9PE-D8-WS-SSI-EEB-Chipset-Socket-R-Workstation-C602-Motherboard-Intel-/142117601087?hash=item2116de7f3f:g:IuwAAOSw9IpX0jlE&autorefresh=true
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-PCS-Intel-Xeon-E5-2670-2-60-Ghz-20M-8-Core-CPU-Processor-SR0KX-C2-115W-LGA2011-/191914784425?hash=item2caf0336a9:g:WTkAAOSwvg9Xe9rQ
http://www.ebay.com/itm/48GB-64GB-96GB-8GB-605313-071-PC3-PC3L-10600R-DDR3-1333MHz-HP-G8-/131925366648?var=&hash=item1eb75d5778:m:mdxcvRK59Vni_XGxtbHqGWw 64 or 96gb

few questions - how much memory could I eventually install into this motherboard? would it be possible to use ram modules from my current build and just buy another 4x8 gb sticks for now and still be able to upgrade to 96 or 128 gb?

would fractal design tesla 500w be enough for the build? or do I need new PSU?

I would use case and cooling I have currently in my workstation

thanks

If it still fits in your budget, look for E5-2680 on ebay or aliexpress. Not exactly crazy faster than 2670, but might be worth the extra ;)

I had 8x8Gb normal Kingston memory sticks working in that board. 64Gb would be max with normal memory.
As for ecc and registered, on Asus product page it states 256Gb max, but that would probably cost you a fortune :|
Same as Juraj suggests in his article I'd say get at least 750w psu. So 500w is a no-go.
Smallest case I know fits that board is a Fractal Design Define R4. Then Define XL R2. (the new R5 have recessed motherboard tray, which prevents board this big)
So while it does go into some ATX cases, it's risky.
For cooling the Cooler Master Hyper 212 work good. Also saw someone build with two Arctic Freezer i30 coolers.

I haven't saved any links, but there was definitely cheaper ecc ddr3 ram on ebay. 95-100eur for 64gb, look in the same shops that sell xeons.
Here's a list of cases people have found to be compatible with that board:
Chieftec Dragon CH-07B-B
Phanteks Eclipse P400 /s
Phanteks Enthoo Pro M
Aerocool Xpredator Xpredator
Aerocool Xpredator Evil Black-Black/Orange
Thermaltake Core V51 \V71
Thermaltake Chaser A71
NZXT SWITCH 810 BLACK Full Tower
INWIN GRone Metallic Grey
Fractal Design Define XL R2
Cooler Master HAF X
Thermaltake Suppressor F51 Black

Double check if possible. I really don't think the 200R will fit.
You could probably find used 212 Evos, if you want to save some more money.

Honestly I am thinking about buying this http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-Z9PA-D8C-ATX-Mainboard-Skt-2011-Intel-C602-90SB02U0-M1UAY0-/291877752609?hash=item43f5450f21:g:GrsAAOSw8w1X3RSr as it would fit into my case :)

What do you think about that MB? except I need to buy soundcard that seems like only drawback for me :)

Regarding the ram - 95-100 eur for 64gb is ok isn´t it? those samsung modules are just for that price..

Oh, that one will fit any standart ATX case. Find a sound card, or earphones with usb sound and it's good to go ;)
A build with that board is where I got the info for using Arctic coolers. Just make sure that case is wide enough for whatever coolers your using.
The ram you posted is probably fine, just those are 96 pounds, so around 114euro. I just suggest you search for cheaper deals.
