[C4D] I need help! / Re: Rendering for VR - Cube map
« on: 2022-04-15, 10:11:03 »
Thanks for the fast reply Tom. I thought it maybe ram, as once when it crashed a memory error came up and I got a blue screen. I have 64GB ram. I had a look at how much ram is being used when rendering and it says 16GB. The scene I'm testing isn't too complex. Also I tried rendering just an empty room and still got a crash.

[C4D] I need help! / Rendering for VR - Cube map
« on: 2022-04-14, 20:29:46 »
Hi. I'm trying to render some images for VR tours to use with Oculus. I was just wondering what resolution people use when doing cube maps? I've heard a few times to render it at 18432 x 1536. Problem I have is Corona always crashes when its rendering. (I've tried around 6-7 times) Also I tried rendering wihthout any materials just plain white material, but still crashes. Any advice much appreciated. :)

Just to add also... I see Oculus Quest resolution is 1832 x 1920. So should I be rendering at 23040 x 1920? Thanks.

It will be, in the next RC 4 coming out soon for C4D (out earlier today for Max); it's a single parameter with no settings, you just add it and enable it if you are loading an existing project; in new projects it will be shown in the stack by default and you won't need to add it, just enable it. Very easy, but very nice results (just the way I like things!)

Ok great thanks for the info. I like the sound of "very easy" too. :)

In that case, there is 90% chance that what we do in v8 is the "make it look nice" effect you associate with ACES, even though we cannot read ACES input assets (which you probably dont have anyways)

Ok thats great. Looking forward to V8. Yes thats pretty much all I want, see how it looks with my Corona renders. :) I may download the latest V8 to try. Is there any info how to apply ACES in Corona V8? Is it in the VFB tone mapping menu?

36
define ACES

We currently support as much ACES as we can without hacks while being a plugin in non-ACES DCC applications

Well, I'm just learning about ACES at the moment so I don't really have a great understanding at the moment. I tried it quickly in Octane and liked the results I got. So was wondering really if and how it would work in Corona.

So does V8 have ACES? Sorry if I misunderstand. :)

That's fast! So that's not a Threadripper, but a lesser CPU? Can't imagine what the 64-core Threadripper does to that scene.

I just tried that scene on my threadripper 3960X 24-Core  :) ...  1min 19secs. I think the 64-core is roughly x3 times faster than that even!. :)

I gave it a test with high quality blending off, which made the render a little fast, but not alot... 2:23 (mins/secs) rather than 2:50 (mins/secs) Turning off UVW randomizer gives me a render time of 0:40 (mins/secs) a lot faster.

So I guess I have to accept UVW is very slow and pretty much unusable for most of my scenes unless I want silly render times. :( ...I'll do some more testing.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try with high quality blending off.

Hi all.

Is it normal that when using the UVW randomizer that you get much longer render times?

For example, I have a basic scene which takes 2:40 (Mins/seconds) to render with 2 materials that have a UVW randomizer. If I take out the UVW randomizer the render times drops to 0:40 (Mins/seconds). I've had other more complex scenes too that when using the UVW randomizer makes scenes far too long to render.

Is this a bug or normal behaviour?

Any info is much appreciated. :)

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Creating grass lawn
« on: 2021-12-20, 13:03:40 »
Thanks for the info, I hadn't thought about distance shader. I've tried different assets, Graswald, Forester, Megascans. Using the Forester scatter and I had it set to multi-instance also.

Yes will be interesting to see Chaos Scatter too!.

[C4D] General Discussion / Creating grass lawn
« on: 2021-12-19, 16:08:54 »
Hi. I was just wondering whats the best way to create a grass lawn in Corona. I have some grass assets which are in grass clumps. I was just wondering how to create straight edges like in the picture attached? Or should I use hair to create the grasss instead of assets? Any advice much appreciated. ALso the assets I've tried make the pc render slow and crashes often.

Yes that would be great to list this as a feature request thanks.

I have attached an image of how I was thinking it would look. Would be great if it brought the folder structure from the multipass menu into the Corona VFB and also would be great if the icons were colour coded too! :)
