[Max] I need help! / I'm looking for a new clean CMU texture
« on: 2019-03-28, 17:15:03 »
I've been searching for a clean CMU (concrete masonry unit) texture, but I've been unable to find any. I have the one from Arroway, but that texture is too rough for my purpose. I'm looking for something that depicts a new CMU wall.

I appreciate any help pointing me to the right source.

I have gravel beds with uneven surfaces, and I would like to scatter some leaves on top. The gravel is scattered in the bed as well (by scattering a 'block' of many pebbles). I'm trying to think of way to scatter the leaves on top of the gravel without having the appearance that they're floating in some areas. I don't have Forest Pack, so I'm scattering with Corona Scatter.

When I try to load a free sky environment map I downloaded from Poliigon (exr file), the CoronaBitmap component is giving me an error saying it cannot load the EXR file because it's not an open EXR file. I've attached the 1K version for sake of file size, but the problem happens regardless of the image size.

When I try to load a free sky environment map I downloaded from Poliigon (exr file), the CoronaBitmap component is giving me an error saying it cannot load the EXR file because it's not an open EXR file. I tried both 16K and 8K map sizes. Any idea what the issue could be?

In V-Ray for Sketchup, there was a tool call a mesh clipper where you could create a closed geometry and set it to either exclude all geometry inside or outside of it. It worked well with scattered geometry because you could easily create hard edges to the scattered geometry w/o having to use scale or density. Is there something similar in 3dsMax that could achieve the same result? The purpose would be to use it for planter boxes to keep any leaves or blades of grass from poking through...similar to the image below.

I would like to have an HDR loaded into my environment map when 3dsMax opens so I don't have to do it repeatedly each time I need to test render. Does anyone know if 3dsMax offers the options to do this?

I got a new computer today and installed 3dsMax and Corona. I would like to install V-Ray, even if it's expired, so I can use the Corona Converter. The issue is, Chaos Group won't even let me access the download folder on their site because I don't have any trials remaining (if I hover my mouse over the download button, it says 'expired download access'). I could create an entirely new Chaos Group account, and try to get another free trial, but I'm hoping there's an easier solution. Any tips?

[Max] I need help! / Render email notifications
« on: 2019-01-25, 23:20:10 »
Does anyone know how to setup Corona render to use the email notification feature? Or perhaps point me towards instructions on how to use it? I can see it being a useful feature for me, but I cannot find any instructions.

Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Applying lines to asphalt texture
« on: 2019-01-23, 00:14:09 »
I have an asphalt texture that I applied to a road. I also have a white-line texture that I want to apply on top of the asphalt texture (I have an alpha mask for the white-line texture too). The white line texture map is long and skinny and a different proportion than the asphalt texture.

I would like to know the best way to do this. Before, I would cut a strip out of my mesh and apply the stripe texture to the strip, but I hope there's a clever way to use the Corona Layered Material to apply the stripe on top of the road.

As a bonus, if I only want to put stripes on the sides of the road, is there a way I can control the tiling so I don't have stripes where I don't want them?

I open up the environment window in 3dsMax and apply an environment HDR map. It shows up in my interactive rendering just fine.

When I open up the slate material editor to adjust to U offset between 0 and 1, the environment in the interactive render does not rotate. Additionally, when I adjust the RGB offset to brighten the map, it does not adjust either. Is there some sort of lock I might have activated that would keep these adjustments from happening?

I've attempted to plug in an aspect ratio into my camera that has a greater height than width, but it has only resulted in a square image. Is there a way to get a camera to render a frame that is in portrait mode or any other ratio that has more verticality than horizontality? I saw that you can rotate the camera, but I was hoping there's an easier way that doesn't force me to look at my monitor sideways. Thanks!

I created this wood floor using the Floor Generator plugin from CG Source. As you can see in the image below, the texture randomly applied to each board is stretch (it's a statuary marble texture).

Is there a way to automatically have the ratio of the UV mapping adjust to the ratio of the texture image if it's not a square? If so, how would I go about applying it to this wood floor editable poly.

I appreciate any help!

I'm trying to render this desk/kitchen island object, and I used the Deform Edges script to deform most of the edges. The deformation yields small imperfections on the faces which are then shaded in the rendering.

I'm trying to find a way to either deform the edges so they don't create these imperfections or tweak any setting if available that will mitigate these small shaded triangles.

I appreciate any help!

I should preface this by stating that I'm a beginner with 3dsMax.

I'm trying to figure out the scaling of material maps (diffuse, reflection, etc.). I know in the material editor (with a bitmap) you can edit the width, height, and set Real-World Scale if you wish. I also know that on the geometry itself there are UVW coordinates that the texture will align to when placed on a geometry. I'm wondering how exactly these relate (perhaps I have it all wrong). Is there a preferred way to edit the scaling of maps on objects?

If I have a material with more than one bitmap plugged into the CoronaMtl component, and let's say I adjust the width/height of one of the bitmaps—Do I then need to make the corresponding adjustments on the other bitmaps so they will align? Is there a method to having them link up?

If I import a material from the Corona Materials library, it will show a certain size in the width/height parameters within the material editor for the bitmaps. Should I consider this to be the correct default size for the texture?

I appreciate any help!

I just made the switch from V-Ray for Sketchup to Corona. I am familiar with a variety of vendors products from Design Connected, CG Connected, etc.

I would like to find out the best way to incorporate these items into workflow with Corona and 3dsMax.

I'm a beginner w/ 3dsMax. I cannot figure out what the best method would be for getting an object into my file I intend to render. For instance, if I need a chair from Design Connected to be inserted into my scene, I would first open up the .max file supplied by Design Connected. Would I then copy and paste the chair from that file into another instance of 3dsMax that has my scene file?

As a side question, I would like to know if there's an effective way to save-out object or groups of objects as components or blocks, similar to Sketchup. I apologize for asking such beginner questions. I don't intend to clog this thread with posts as basic as this one.
