[C4D] General Discussion / Re: corona and substance
« on: 2021-01-02, 20:16:43 »
Considering Adobe now owns Substance, and the former head of Adobe now runs Maxon, you would think this could be worked out sooner than later.

Actually, that was very helpful. Thanks for pointing that out!

I don't see the attachment.

I'd do it another way. Since you have your path already done, make a selection from your path in Photoshop, Copy. New Photoshop document, hit OK (it will make a new document to match what's in memory), then hit paste. Now you have your mouse with a transparent background. Save this out as a PSD or a PNG with transparency. Make a material in C4D and use this PNG file. You should be able to fit it on the surface nicely.

Now, in your setup, you have an Extrude Object. If you want to keep it that way, after you apply the new material, in the Selection field type C1 (cap 1). if it doesn't appear just on the front, then change that to C2. I assume you don't want the mouse to be distorted along the outer edges of your extruded object. Make sense? Sorry, but I don't know you level of C4D knowledge.

[C4D] General Discussion / Light Object vs. Light Material
« on: 2020-12-28, 16:05:01 »
Aside from IES capabilities, is there any reason I should use one or the other types of light for bunch of ceiling lights in a large interior? Here is a close to final render (only 10 passes) so you can see the context.

Just wanted to make sure. So what settings did you use on the Compositing Tag? Are you separating several element onto their own layer? Are you exporting a AE comp or are you manually stacking your layers?

607
Seems like the distance shader is similar to C4D's Proximal Shader. Is that correct?

Ah, yes. As I was reading your reply, I was thinking "Isn't he talking about xRefs?" The idea of xRefs is great, but it's broken. Any time I've tried to use it, the model ends up "breaking apart", as in many of the part just move to another position and can't be fixed or undone. Thanks for the info.

609
Are you saying a Corona Compositing tag? I've never heard of a Multipass Tag.

610
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have since looked into the LOD object. I completely forgot about that one. I found a better explainer video on how to use this tool. I'll give it a try and post back.

I can't remember if C4D has a feature like this or not. Say you have a Cloner set to Grid Array and a complex model. Is there a way to tell C4D or Corona, at render time, to reduce the resolution of the most distant meshes to reduce render times? I don't know if Corona itself has anything like that. For my situation, I have a bunch of car models outside, in a large dealer parking lot. When some of the cars are in the distance, clearly, I don't need crazy detail in the mesh or in materials such as displacement.

Well color me surprised. I never thought to try the Sun tag. I guess the only thing you don't get just using the Sun tag is the list of cities so you don't have to hunt down the long-lat of where your scene is.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Plants in Corona

Hi Mettigel.

It would be helpful to see what you're trying to achieve. In the design and graphics world, you will always look for ways to cheat at a look or effect to achieve a final product faster and cheaper. For a tropical scene, you could use actual tree models for closer items and 2D planes for background trees.

You didn't mention if this is an animation or a still. Big question.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: foreground object
« on: 2020-12-14, 17:14:41 »
Hi Koen. In the past when I wanted to see broadcast safe margins inside C4D, I would make a PNG in Photoshop with the lines I needed. 16:9 of course. Since the Foreground Object isn't supported, I make a plane that is 16:9 in proportion and drop this material on it. The important part for my case was to make this plane a Child of the Camera and adjust the plane's position so it fits your field of view perfectly. Now, no matter where I move the camera, I can always see my broadcast lines. I also add a Compositing Tag and turn OFF the Seen by Camera.

It would help if you described your situation with more details or posted a screen shot of you scene. What do you want to put on the Foreground Object? Some of what I posted above may apply to you, but don't know enough details.

If I may add on to the subject of Proxies, is using Proxies similar to using C4D's Instances? What's the advantage to Corona Proxies?
