Chaos Corona 11 for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D released!

Chaos Corona 11 (Release Candidate 2) is out now for 3ds Max!
Everyone with an active license has access, and the downloads are in the usual locations. Posting this one as a news item as it should fix the problems with the Corona Color Picker under Max 2024.2. Other changes can be seen in the changelog.

A Release Candidate is close to being the final release, but we need your feedback to catch any remaining bugs or other issues from real world testing.
Here are some of the major features in Corona 11:
  • Easily create stunning bathrooms, kitchens, walls, and floors with procedural tiles thanks to Corona Tile Map.

The Corona Academy helps you learn Corona by guiding you through the creation of scenes from start to finish. It introduces each Corona feature in the exact time you would use it in a typical real-world workflow, allowing you to apply your knowledge immediately. The Corona Academy is a great companion to our YouTube channel, which delves into specific features one at a time.

The Corona Academy lessons provide in-depth insights into working with Corona and are suitable for users of all levels. We recommend that complete beginners start with our YouTube videos and documentation. New Academy videos will be regularly published, gradually covering every parameter, tool, and feature of Corona. All videos are available to anyone with an active Corona license, simply head on over to the Corona Academy pages and login with your Chaos account to start learning!

You can use this forum board to ask questions, share your results from following along with the lessons, or give any feedback you have about the Academy - simply start a new topic, or join in on any existing ones! We hope this makes Corona even easier to learn than ever before!

[Max] Daily Builds / Tiles playground

If you are familiar with the daily builds and know how to use them, download the newest one here:

Don't forget to take advantage of things like the multiple input/outputs so you can separately control color, bump, displacement, etc. all from the same TileMap. And of course make use of the new "by Tile id" option in the MappingRandomizer and the MultiMap.

This hotfix addresses a specific issue, and all Corona 10 users, for both 3ds Max and Cinema 4D, are recommended to download it.

The issues are:
  • Fixed slowdown when using Triplanar mapping
  • Added compatibility with Cinema 4D 2024 (Cinema 4D only... of course :) )
  • Fixed installation of Chaos Cosmos and Chaos licensing server on macOS (Cinema 4D only)

There are no other changes.

This hotfix addresses some specific issues, and all Corona 10 users, for both 3ds Max and Cinema 4D, are recommended to download it.

The issues are:
  • Fixed issue where using "Camera physical size" with UHD/4K cache led to freeze.
  • Fixed issue where using "Camera physical size" sometimes broke object picking from VFB.
  • Fixed issue where CIE crashes after deleting Curves tone mapping operator with an opened editor.
  • Fixed issue where creating a region during pre-rendering phases led to a crash.
  • Added legacy checkbox (in Developmental/Experimental Stuff settings) to return to the pre Version 10 filtering of environment maps. This is on by default for legacy scenes.
  • (3ds Max) Fixed issue where Cosmos freezes 3ds Max if closed too quickly after start.
  • (3ds Max)Fixed issue where setting a Camera Physical Size in a Corona 10 scene caused opening a pre-Corona 10 scene later in the same session to inherit the Camera Physical Size setting rather than have it set to 0 (as there was no such parameter before Corona 10).
  • (Cinema 4D) Fixed problem with Corona light and Corona proxy object not rendering in normal render when instanced using multi-instances as part of hidden instanced group
  • (Cinema 4D) Fixed problem with tone mapping panel in Corona VFB having different background color than the rest of VFB on some macOS systems

We also updated the images in the Corona installer, our thanks to the artists for giving us permission to use their images and we hope you enjoy their work!

Here are some of the major features in Corona 10:
  • Easily add cracks, dirt, stickers, etching, embossing, and more thanks to individual control over the material channels (Diffuse, Displacement, Metalness, etc.) affected by a Corona Decal.
  • Fly cameras through smoke and clouds, or have them half-submerged in water with accurate rendering from Cameras inside volumetric materials such as those from Phoenix simulations.
  • Brighter, more accurate Caustics when rendering to large resolutions.
  • Greatly improved highlight blurring when using Depth of Field.
  • Easily find and adjust scatters, lights, proxies, displacement, and cameras using the new Listers.
  • Scatter onto scatters
  • Support for motion blur with animated deformations

News / Chaos Corona 9 for Cinema 4D (Hotfix 1) released

This hotfix addresses some specific issues, and all Corona for Cinema 4D users are recommended to download it.

The issues are:
  • Added 55 materials in material library that were missing in comparison to material library in 3ds Max (Glass, Nature and Plastic categories)
  • Fixed crash on macOS when opening color picker from Corona VFB when Redshift is installed
  • Fixed problem with installer sometimes showing error on macOS even when everything installs correctly
  • Fixed IR crashes occurring in some specific cases (usually either complex scenes or some specific combinations with e.g. Xpresso usage)
  • Fixed problem with Corona Lights still showing in viewport even when viewport visibility was off or whole light was disabled
  • Fixed problem with IR not correctly updating when changing materials in Include/Exclude list in material overrides
  • Fixed missing UI button icons in Scanned material UI in older versions of Cinema 4D
  • Scanned material no longer shows requirement for V-Ray in its description in UI
  • Fixed problem with tone mapping from camera not being applied when rendering via Team Render Server
