@Beanzvision Do I get a prize for spotting the Pixar ball in that kitchen scene? ha

Tried your suggestion and had the same error.

@MacMDX Did you use the correct mode? I looked at the DoF and it only changed when using the one mode.

Updating a few machines so I can use my mini render farm. I logged in remotely to my Mac and I download the v10 Daily Build and run the installer. I had a similar error when v9 came out. At some point, I get an error saying there was a problem with installing the material library. It will finish the install and appears to work inside C4D, but there are errors in some of the materials from the library. They seem to be the newly added items in v10. Below is a screen shot of one section. I also say errors in the glass, nature and plastics sections. v10 installed perfectly fine on the Windows 10 PC and my 2017 iMac Pro running Monterey and an M1 Mini running OS 11.4 Big Sur.

The problem Mac is:

Version • 10 (Daily Build Nov  3 2022)
2013 Mac Pro with OS 10.15.2 Catalina (I will be updating the OS soon)
C4D r20 and r25

Work in Progress/Tests / A Little Holiday Fun

Found an old C4D scene and finished it off with Corona. I need to learn more about adding some subtle fog to this scene. Maybe play with depth of field too. Enjoy.

Second what others have said. Lighting is priority number one, however, if you have razor sharp edges and elementary materials, the great lighting will only highlight those shortcomings. All the edges in your render will slice a tomato they are so sharp. A very slight bevel will catch light and provide tremendous realism. Look around your house. EVERYTHING has a slight bevel/rounded edge. Also, everything has reflection. Even it is very subtle.

One trick you can use when dealing with multiple lights is to only turn on ONE at a time and adjust. Sometimes is difficult to see a highlight with all the other lights are on. Just some suggestions.

Were you using Team Render? In the past, I've seen TR render the image in sections base on the cores. Some are faster than others. Just a thought.

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Decals Don't Work with Instances
« on: 2022-11-20, 19:17:49 »
Main issue. It appears Decals do not work with C4D instances at all. Tried Instance, Render Instance and Multi-Instance. If I just drop a stacked material onto the objects, the grunge shows up in all instances no problem.

I thought, why not try this Corona Proxy object instead of using C4D's Instances. First of all, very clumsy to use. Multiple steps, save each one, blah, blah. Should just work with a click. As you can see in the lower image, not quite the look I was going for. I have read in other old threads, that you need to combine into one mesh and drag materials into those channels. What goes where? I have no clue. Clunky. If you have a bunch of houses or buildings this would take so long.

Anyway, Decals don't work with Instances.

I addressed that in the my OP. I had set the VFB to be the default which how I noticed this issue. Not a big problem, just one that shouldn't be there.

When I change it back to Picture Viewer, it works however, that's when the warning comes up about all the "missing" textures yet it renders perfectly.

I posted in one of those threads that if you add your lights to a Layer, you can then hide any object in that layer with one click.

Can't tell you why there aren't more resources. My guess would be while Corona is very popular with ArchViz pros, not many of them use C4D for their work. Here are a couple of material sources that I have purchased from. Everything from The Pixel Lab is top notch.

You need something in the air to catch the light, such as fog.

@Oniel There is a dedicated Bugs forum. If it's a crash, then try to provide a file and any reports generated.

Interesting. Good to know.

Also, when I've done this type of troubleshooting, I start by disabling half of the objects. Then a simple logic process.

Problem gone ---> Issue is in the OTHER half of objects. Now disable half of THAT group. Repeat until you isolate. It's much faster since you can eliminate half of everything at a time.

Some PBR materials you can find on the web for wicker might get you close, then some adjustments. The other thing I tested was using Corona Pattern. Here's a screenshot of what I set up. I made a simple repeatable set of cylinders and use the Pattern tool to apply them to the speaker's surface. I've never used this tool before, and I found it a little tricky if you're not good with UVW mapping, which I am not. I was able to rotate things and get it close. If I took my time and made a proper weave section, this would look even better. I added a little bump and displacement stretched out in one direction for the surface effect, but the anisotropy direction would also work too.

Hope this helps. Here's a Chaos quick starter video on the Pattern tool:
