[C4D] General Discussion / vertex map shader
« on: 2018-06-11, 10:00:06 »
I'm trying to use a vertex map in one of my Corona shaders to add dirt, but it looks like it doesn't work with Corona?

So under Opacity, I add layer, then shader->effects->vertex shader.

Please let me know if it works with Corona

" we lose the VFB settings you used in the interactive buffer if you switch to the normal one.
Again, I don't understand. I tried to render in IR, changed exposure in VFB, closed VFB, started normal render and the exposure was changed correctly. not mine. It resets"

Quick question - the scene isn't being rendered from a Camera with a Corona tag that overrides the settings is it? From what I've noticed, the VFB parameters don't get locked if that's the case, so the camera settings will "take over" again when things are restarted, so I wonder if something like that is happening here?

Hi Tom,

I always use a normal camera with a corona tag on, but lets say i do test renders with the interactive renderer, and start a final render on the normal corona VFB, it reset itself back to it's default...

kindly see in green below:

So I took some time to go through all your requests/reports and here are my answers:

- interactive renderer doesnt always update
We need more information. When does this happen? almost all the time...i have to stop & restart it.
- when the scene is too heavy, it crashes cinema with interactive rendering
We would need more specific information, maybe the scene. And a way to reproduce ok will have to reproduce it
- would love to have a full history of renders rendered so we can also edit them again as well
This probably won't be done, because of memory requirements.
- you cant have any background plane with a texture on in any visual
Sorry, I don't understand. What do you mean? We don't support the "Background" object. Is that what you meant? nope, but got it sorted.
- we lose the VFB settings you used in the interactive buffer if you switch to the normal one.
Again, I don't understand. I tried to render in IR, changed exposure in VFB, closed VFB, started normal render and the exposure was changed correctly. not mine. It resets
- Cinema crashes when you have interactive rendering on and switch SurfaceSpread on and off sometimes...
I didn't try this one, because I don't have SurfaceSpread, but we'll look at it.
- We need an invert button in the material editor under ''glossiness'' or ''bump'' to change it quickly
We might think about this in the "glossiness", but then this could be done in more places. In "bump", you can actually do it using negative values...
- I cant dare to double click on something sometimes when it renders, then it crashes instantly
Again, need more info, scene, steps to reproduce, etc...ok sure will save a scene when it does it again
- If you copy any object in a C4D scene (which has nothing to do with the render), the render restarts which shouldt happen
We can't do anything about this. We don't know if the object is important for the render or not (because some script could be reading from the object)
- Would love an on/off button to tick for denoising so we can check differences
I will ask the core devs, but this seems like a good idea to me... :)

As a final thought, please create separate forum threads for important issues, otherwise the issues might get lost. ok will do thank you for the response! :)

If you want, I could put together a guide, when i have the time.
I don't know if you have R19, if not, there are some easy to use free tools out there which can do the same job.

yes that will always be very helpful! No on R18 :)

I‘m doing renderings like this in daily business with no problems at all.
If your rendering behaves different(crashes) in higher resolutions but runs fine with lower  resolutions its most likely a memory issue.
One thing most people don‘t take into consideration is displacement. As this is resolution dependant (screen Space) by default and mesh subdivs will substantially increase and fill your memory with higher resolutions.
I highly recomend monitoring your memory usage. fe with Taskmanager oder activity monitor (OSX)

best regards
Markus

Ok cheers Markus! I'm unsure as i have 56 Gig ram so a simple scene like that shouldn't have issues...

did the Msi values change you? GIvsAA? they influence a lot on great resolutions

no i leave the max sample intensity at default.

Hi Jireh3D,

can you please send us a screenshot of "Stats" panel of VFB. The values from stats can help us to understand what is the complexity of the scene.

Nikola

sure - Two of the scenes attached - 1 exterior & 1 Interior
The interior struggles so much...

It doesn't matter if it's an animation or not. With LODs, you save lots and lots of memory.
You don't need R19 or a tree generator for that, just a low poly version of the plants which you can create.
Then keyframe the appearance of the high/low-poly geometry or use xpresso to automate that based on distance.
You can also render the house and the plants in separate renders. and compose them later. (use placeholders to cast shadows onto those objects)

Oh ok, i see. Have no idea how to do it, but i understand what you mean

Wouldn't like to loose me football in that back garden.

hahahahaha

Yes Here in the western Cape that is our typical ''Fynbos'' but yes you are right mate - That football would be GONE! :D :D :D

Ok i see, yes all high poly....Thing is it will all be animated as well, so high poly is important...

Do you use LODs for your plants?

How do you render your scenes? Do you render all plants at once(instanced) or in clumps and compose them later?

Not sure what you mean by LODs...
I render it at once....all instanced
Scene roughly 8 million poly's (not sure how it calculates it with the instances included....)

Thx guys,

No i dont use laubwork, but i attach an example of some of my typical scenes...
These were rendered with vray, but corona struggles which is bad for me because i'm trying to go over to corona...

Thanks

Please delete this post admin - I see the file isnt CXR, but EXR....No idea what i did here...:(

Hi guys,

I've rendered a scene roughly 14 hours, 168 passes & I saved the CXR file...

Today i have time to continue to render it, so i loaded the scene and it starts from 0 again...

Am i doing something wrong? I dont have 14 more hours :)

thx
Jireh3D

Ok, i think it's not part of Cinema 4D Prime...
Content Browser > Presets > Prime > Presets > Tools & Helpers > Tiled Camera
