[C4D] General Discussion / Re: New Corona Material Pack

Thanks Al! Here's one more from testing. It's a nice kit and easy to tweak.

I bought it.  I'm not into material packs (and have a Poliigon sub), but I think Joren is a good guy and advocate for the Cinema community.  I've certainly learned a lot from his site over the years, and I want to support anyone making commercial products for the Corona ecosystem.  Attached a quick scene render with them - everything in here is from the pack except the painting and book.

Hi,

So when is V8 going to be useable with R26?  Tom's previous comment is now over a month old.  I understand that the daily build of 9 is compatible, but we can only use the stable release candidates here for client work - no daily builds or beta software allowed.  Is this ever going to happen?  We'd like to upgrade to R26 for some of the new features, but are held back by lack of Corona support.  I also have training clients and students just now getting Cinema or upgrading and they are hesitant since the stable release isn't available yet.

Thanks for any info you can share.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Texture resizing

I like to put the texture on one object and scale it to the correct size, and then copy that material tag to the other object.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Avoiding Sky Pinching

I forgot to add, that yes, I too just rotate the whole sky system to place my sun in HDRIs. Shawn Astrom also makes some nice ones - I have a few of his kits.  Epic Sunsets is a great one. http://shawnastrom.com/store

I've been playing with this very thing lately. Definitely check out this great blog/tutorial:

https://www.thecommonpoint.com/blog_hdri

It's for Max, but the principles are the same. I always just tossed an hdri in and cranked the exposure on the vdb up or down, but now I load it into a color correct node and use gamma and exposure to control it more finely. I also invested in some really high quality hdris:

Using the Corona sky in physical mode with the sun object is nice too. It takes a bit to get used to it, but you can do nice things with practice. Just checking Volume Effect in the sky adds some nice distant haze without setup. Check out the volumetric article on that same blog.

Of course, you can mix and match and have one hdri for light and one for visual if you set the check boxes accordingly. I tend to just keep it simple though, easier to dial in and update. I think I tend to use hdri more for exterior and sky/sun for interiors, but the needs of each shot trumps all.

Also worth a warch, even though it's a few years old:

Keep in mind you can also buy VDBs already made - here's one set for example:

Clouds, Fire, explosions, etc.  There are lots of packs and free stuff kicking around the internet too.  Just an option.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: changing material
« on: 2021-06-07, 21:06:19 »
Create the material and then drag and drop it into the field for MATERIAL OVERRIDE in the Corona render settings.  You can check to keep displacement active and there is an exclude area so you can have the override ignore certain materials or geometry (e.g. luminous materials, glass, etc).

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Realistic Grass / Plants
« on: 2021-03-08, 04:37:06 »
Well, a pretty open ended question, but here are some random thoughts - I'm not a foliage expert but have done scenes with a lot of it:

1. Good source material. It really pays off here. Buy good assets or if creating them with specialized software do it right. There is a lot of cheap, badly mapped foliage around the internet: get the best stuff you can afford.

2. Think about Level of detail and distance from camera. Trees right near the camera or main focal point should be high poly with good textures and stuff further back and far away can be lower poly and resolution. This helps keep polygon count lower as well - see No. 3

3. Foliage can be expensive in render time and file sizes. Work efficiently and organized. Instance as much as possible. You'll need decent hardware to keep it rendering snappy.

4. I keep foliage on its own Layer or all in one Master null so I can hide it in viewport and keep my frame rates working well while working and tweaking the rest of the model or doing test renderings for architecture.

5. Leaves and grass have subtle translucency I. E. They show backlight from the sun. This helps realism but can add render time. If slowing down your scene, keep it turned off for testing and on for final outputs.

6. Forester is a decent plug in for Cinema with a big library and it can create materials automatically for a few different render engines. I use purchased models for the closest and Forester for the mid and far ranges.

I think Corona does very well with foliage. Hope that helps some.

SEARCHING FOR FATHER

The machine didn't give us answers, it just connected points in space to make the picture clearer. Where are you?

I've chipped away at this one for a while in my spare time - playing with different lighting looks. Based on architecture by Buro511.

Modeled in Vectorworks and rendered with Corona for Cinema4D.
