I guess it works best on photos in RAW format.

It doesn't, I tested it already plenty :- ). It's some very shitty fast algorithm. The quality is nowhere, not even remotely close to other solutions out there.

Imho it's meant to upscale raw/content from cell-phones, and being able to compute it on low-performance hardware like that as well.

Ahh, too bad. So far I know it doesn't really like the X-Trans sensor (even though they advertised it as supporting Bayer and X-Trans!) - worms all over the place.
