Any help?

Max.log and DrLog.txt of a (failing) slave would be useful. Additionally: are you able to open/render the scene on that DR slave without issues? Does it work with any other, maybe smaller test scene?

Btw: you should have posted here to get a quick answer from support:

Good Luck

Funny, I didn't know about the "I need help!" part of the forum!

The scene needs aprox. 90GB of Ram, which are more than what slave machine has, which is 64GB. The awkward thing is that it never reaches its potential of 64GB. It goes up to 20GB and down, again and again. I have seen the same slave machine under the same LAN to maximize its potential and as a result it became super slow on giving passes. But that's not the case now. Is it something you heard of again?

Thank you!

i think DR uses the memory it needs according to the scene you send. How's the CPU usage on the slaves ? Because if they are at 100%, it should be OK

The scene is heavy. It needs 90GB of Ram. Slave machine doesn't stress at all. Essentially, it doesn't do anything.

Any idea someone?

I really need DR

Hello,

I am fairly new to distributed rendering so I am not confident with it.
I try to use distributed rendering but it seems that something isn't working correctly.
Although everything looks fine at the beginning, the memory usage does not build up during the "parsing scene" phase. It goes to 15-20GB and then it stops. After approx. 5 mins memory usage goes down and DrServer is acting like restarting. After that memory usage goes again close to 20GB and then it does the same thing again and again.

I am using corona 6 Hotfix 2 3ds max 2020.
Any help?

Thanks

Hello!

Yes they do. Most of the times are props or furniture with high count of polygons

Hello there,

I am facing an annoying issue regarding CoronaDistance and CoronaAO when I exclude or include objects.
It looks like both of these features bring lag on the viewport and in general during I work on the scene.
It is like 3ds Max runs calculation real-time when I move, rotate or isolate an object (or a group of objects) which happens to be included or excluded for a material that has CoronaDistance or CoronaAO. For example, when I have a floor which has a "dirt" effect but with specific objects close to it and I try to to do something with these objects I got instant lag.

More objects bring worse lag. It feels like it shouldn't be like that because I don't do IR to see that "dirt" while I move objects.

Is it something I only face?

Edit: I work with Corona 6 Hotfix 2 at the moment. I didn't find yet a gap between projects to update the engine

Cheers!

Thank you maru!
If someone has to add something to the topic, please go ahead, I would appreciate it!

Cheers!

Interesting...!
It is weird though as the LAN works on other occasions. Does it have to do with how distributed rendering works?

Also, why sometimes works and sometimes not? Any idea?

Cheers!

Hello everyone!

I am facing an issue when I try distributed rendering on my simple LAN. Let me explain.
First of all, I am a completely noob in everything about LANs. However, I have managed to create a local LAN with two computers that works. It is an "offline" lets say type of LAN as I get my internet wirelessly in both of my computers. So the LAN connection between these two computers is pretty straight forward, an ethernet cable goes from one pc to the other. The second pc does not have a monitor-keyboard-mouse so I control it through Microsoft's Remote Desktop*.

* There are two software available from Microsoft that do the same thing. One called "Remote Desktop Connection", which is the old classic one and the other called "Remote Desktop", which have a fresh and more user friendly UI so I chose that.

Remote Desktop works fine. I have no other issues except when I try distributed rendering.
At start, distributed rendering works fine, the main pc sends all the information the second pc needs and then "updates" start to count. At about 5 "updates" the second pc has the first "pass" ready to be sent and at that moment my LAN stuck! The Remote Desktop software and the distributed rendering freeze. It is like someone is pulling out the cable. Then I have to close down everything and restart the second computer. Sometimes it doesn't stuck and "passes" start to count normally but it is very rare.

Had anyone faced this? Any help would be much appreciated!

As I said, I am a noob in LANs, so forgive me if I didn't use the right terminology about something.

Thanks!

Hello all!

It's been a while since we post something. 2020 was wild in many ways. Anyway!

We would like to share with you one of our latest completed projects.
We have been commisioned to visualize a fully independent extension located below an existing summer house in Serifos Island, Greece.
All furnitures and big part of shading have been created from scratch.

Earthy tones have been chosen in order to match the design with the dry summer climate of Serifos. Our goal was to create a set of images that would virtually travel the viewer there and make him feel the relaxing vibes of the place.

Hope you like it!

« on: 2021-03-06, 13:53:10 »
Hello there,

I try to find a nice article about how to use HDRI in Corona. The article is relatively new. It came out 2 or 3 months before.
It was written by some noteworthy archviz artists and it was basicaly an introduction to some online courses they will release soon.
The article was explaining the whole theory behind HDRI and how to use Corona Color Correct with it.

Help!

Hello everyone!

I would like to share with you a commissioned project we did in 2019.
It's a 5-star all inclusive hotel in the island of Kefalonia, Greece.
A lot of new techniques hace been used on this project, the most important was caustics.
We started working on the project during Corona 4 period and, although caustics were available in Corona 4, we had a lot of noise and render times problems.
Fortunately, Corona 5 came out just before the final renderings and the difference was really impressive. Displacement's improvements have also played an important role. This project would not be the same without Corona 5...

Huge thanks to Corona team! Keep going guys!

32bit/16bit EXRs has much wider dynamic range than RAW

Indeed, it's this. Quite often people assume that HDR from bracketed photos are somehow different than HDR straight out of framebuffer. It's because:

-Many people bracket jpegs or tiffs that already have camera curve applied in HDR photomerging, so the resulting HDR (before tonemapping algorithm gets applied) already looks richer and crispier.
-HDR Softwares offer local-tonemapping instead of global tonemapping (or both). Imho Local-Tonemapping is the ugly shit from 2000 that I am happy has died, it looks terrible even in moderation.
-Highlight compression in any raw editor is still much superior to Reinhard (or the broken filmic) in Corona. It's nice curve that doesn't flatten midtones to mushy ugliness.

To get around the limitations that common raw editors and HDR editors have in regards to importing linear 32bit files...the "get-around" of manually re-saving HDR from framebuffer into individual brackets is as old as CG-Architect forum itself :- ).
I have seen this advice 10 years ago...

It's absolutely stupidity, but if you want to do it, you also need to modify exif of those files or have HDR editor that enables you to manually specify the EVs of your "fake" brackets.

The outdated and forgotten PS plugin ArionFX enables you to do all of this directly. It has every single global and local tonemapper...except for filmic.

The best approach currently used by interior photographers is to use minimal highlight compression, zero HDR, and do lot of manual tweaks (gradient exposure, compositing exposures with masks,etc..).
This gives natural look. To simulate this from Corona, never use more than 2 in HL. Yes it's bright..you need to the the rest in smart ways, just like photographers. It's identical.

So-called "HDR" (drastic local tonemapping) was never good looking.

Although the Photomerge in Ps works (because it asks for EV values, so there is the point which you fake the EVs), your suggested approach creates much better results indeed. My image, although not burnt, was flat on midtones and mushy! I knew something was wrong but I couldn't identify it. Sometimes you have to follow the basics I guess!

Cheers!

I'm not sure Lightroom can process bracketed shots. But in PS you can get local compression when converting 32 to 16 bpc. Also, there's a command called Photomerge or something which produces HDR photography from bracketed shots. For that it needs the images to be saved with different exposure, -3 EV, -2, -1 etc, you load them and specify exposure times and it produces some output which may or not be satisfactory though...

Lightroom can process bracketed shots. The command of Photomerge you talk about can be done in Lightroom too with 2-3 clicks. This is what I was trying to do but it fails with tiffs (16 or 32bit)

I will try with Photoshop to see what happens.

Thanks
