@Juraj - You seem to render a lot of highrez images monthly - can You estimate roughly combined CB15 score of all your machines :) ?

+/- 12 000

1x (2x2698v4)
2x (2x2680v2)
2x (i7 4930k)

It's not enough :- ) It's not enough for animations at all (in Corona), and I have have some stills that take hours...on this whole setup. But in those I wonder if I am doing something wrong in 3ds Max or Corona, because I can't explain how it can be suddenly so noisy. Like I need 2000 passes (Default 16/2 settings!). I will post those in I need help section because I just dunno. If it's the low-gloss mats everywhere + GI or what..... ceilings are always super noisy.

Thanks for the info!

Terribly sorry for the offtop, but You are invaluable source of info here :)

Is the build 2x2698v4 your primary workstation ? If yes have you built it on regular market chips or ES ones, and what are your thoughts about it ? Worth the cost ? Does it do well on parsing stuff like displacement and Forest Pack ? Do the scenes remain sesponsive while working with IR (heavier scenes of course, not 20kk polys :)) ?

No, it's not my workstation, it's clocked too low (the ES have pretty much just all-core turbo). I use the 2680v2 which are retail chips and even their all-core is 3.1 but single core I think I reach 3.5.

For workstation I would buy the QS or OEM models, not as cheap as ES...but still nowhere close to retail ;- ) I would perhaps opt for the highest possible single-core turbo, because the next Pascal cards ( Titan-P ) are rumoured to be bottlenecked by CPU.
I don't know if it's true, and if it is, it's quite idiotic nVidia can't utilize multithreading on CPU properly ( because they are going to sell the same card under Quadro brand to lower-clocked Xeon users, so what gives... ? )

But worth the cost ? Well it's 4 times more powerful than similar i7 build. But what I wrote here you didn't get from me, I am of course not supporting grey/black market and all filthy thieves should be punished.

What color to use for hearth-bit effect?

My i7 connected to 42" TV could be seen beside.

I'll make better pictures during a day and without protective plastic, I dont want to scratch window because I still have a few things to do on this PC.

Components for RGB controller and RGB strips cost me about 4€ and I can make any color and effect (I put white strobe effect during post) I imagine. I don't know what to do with internal serial port because I don't have bracket for COM port and that's why I made this RGB controller - to connect internal serial to something.

Great!!!!!  Don't think that everyone has better machine in private own. Only big companies has better workhorses, my firm has but those are net and accounting servers. I don't think that there is a lot of workstation like your is.

But... I packed my dual Xeon in a box this morning. My old i7 is good enough for things I do. This new machine is really big and consume a lot of space. I have to make enough space for other project, some electronics,  I am doing. I will continue story when I get gtx 1060 and I'll do the most important tests. The most important thing computers do and 99% usage scenario.... GAMES!!!! I'll do benchmark in games.

Well I spent 620€ for build with no PSU, SSD, dvd included because I have a lot of this spare unused parts. For GPU I will use GTX 1060 which will be 300€ max, so I hope that this build will be 920€. I found whole new AMD PC with case psu, hdd, dvd, everything (no OS) for 120€ in local computer shop with 2 years warranty but I think that it is not so good as this dual Xeon, and maybe I do wright building this although it is almost 10 times more expensive and much bigger case.

I usually use PC for gaming, internet, doing software, sometimes for virtualization and test applications I made, doing electronics, programming microcontrollers, doing HD home videos. Rarely I use 3ds to do some rotating text or simple animation. I haven't been in 3d since 1995, till then I made a lot of commercials and animations in DOS Autodesk 3d application (does anyone tried it?  Shaper, Loofter... and so). So no heavy duty work, but I think that having such machine is not bad.

Bunch of those deals on ebay, albeit in europe they're bit more costly. I've bought one for 900 euro, but bear in mind that most of hardware like psu is custom HP made and finding a standard replacement is impossible as mobo has 18 pin power connector which is not standard. Also from my experience I find buying of these a bit risky as my HP Z620 is in service now after a month of heavy usage with some motherboard problems.
